The sky came down to touch my feet
Lake Michigan at sunset. The sun has already gone past the horizon, and the sky near horizon is ablaze in orange. Most of the sky is overcast is gray clouds which are lit below by the sun's red light. The water and the beach are both dark, but at their meeting when a wave pulls back into a thin sheet the sky's reflection shines bright in a gradient that ranges from orange to an almost magenta red

This year my family is having spaghetti for Thanksgiving and previous years when we don't get a free turkey from work we've done pancakes or gotten Chinese food.

I recently beat hades 2 with 32 darkness so I just felt the need to brag. Whenever I really get into a video game I develop the desire to get a tattoo to commemorate the occasion but there's just too much to choose from in that game

This place must be so busy in the summer
A huge parking lot with three wide lanes and no cars. There is some dead grass on either side of the road, and the parking lot curves into the distance. One blue stripe on the flat expanse of asphalt signifies a handicapped parking spot. The sun is a blur in the hazy sky above a lake surrounded by forest. There is some concrete in front of some grass that leads to a sandy beach. There are some short trees with no leaves next to grills and picnic tables. A black metal grill for cooking in a public park. There are three racks side by side on one central pillar set in the ground. There is a green grass lawn in the background big enough to play football or soccer.

This was the first snow and freeze we had last week
A pond filled with lily pads covered in a thin layer of ice and snow. There are some bare trees and grasses on a ridge of land in between ponds and in the background there is a forest and some of those trees still have yellow orange red and brown leaves. More of the semi frozen pond. There is still some snow on the sticks and grasses that poke through the water which is mostly a dull green color. The pond is surrounded by trees that have lost their leaves. This pond only has a patch of slushy ice in the corner. The sky is overcast white. In the forest. The trees have lost their leaves but some of the shrubs still have yellowish green leaves and this one small guy has bright red leaves.

This was the day after the first hard frost a few weeks back
A pine tree with clusters of yellow needles and drooping branches. This pine tree's branches look like strings of yellow flowers but they are really pine needles on thin branches almost like a weeping willow. A path through the forest flanked by orange and yellow trees all along the path. The trunk of a pine tree is oozing sticky sap down its front and it is starting to pool around the base of the tree.

I remember when my roommate said the walls turned to spiders that insulted his intelligence and someone unknown soaked my laptop in orange juice while someone else texted his girlfriend using an 8 of clubs and tried to fuck the vacuum.

I like these weird little historical places
A small sign that says "the initial points of the Michigan survey defining our state since 1815 meridian baseline State Park" and it has pictures of two circular plaques that are at survey points in the ground. A sign that says Meridian base line initial point The 1785 land ordinance organized the system of surveying land in regular square six mile units called townships and square one mile subunits called sections. Surveyor general Edward tiffin set the Michigan meridian (north-south line) using the 1807 treaty of Detroit land cessions. On September 19 1815 Benjamin Hough began surveying north from fort defiance ohio. Alexander holmes began surveying the meridian from a point 78 miles west of Detroit. Wet land caused him to turn east then north before starting the base line east. He quit that fall, but Hough completed the meridian and marked the initial point in 1816. Tiffin suspended surveying in 1816 as he believed the land was "poor" unfit for military purposes and not "worth the expense of surveying it." A sign that says Meridian base line dual initial points Michigan territory governor lewis cass directed surveys near Detroit to resume in 1817. The opening of the Erie canal in 1821 increased industry and settlement, contributing to the need for further land surveys. In 1824 Joseph wampler reran the last twelve miles of the meridian north to intersect the base line he had extended West about eighteen miles. For unknown reasons he marked a second initial point 935.88 feet south of the first mark. Since land had already been surveyed and sold using the first point surveyors used both initial points: the northern point for land east of the meridian and the southern point for land westward. The Michigan survey continued through 1856 based on the dual initial points near here where Jackson and Ingham counties meet. A jumble of fallen trees which are damp from the light rain and green with moss and lichen. The ground is covered in leaves.

This was the last time I went swimming near the end of October. I only went up to my waist, with some waves going over my shoulders, and I got out pretty quickly too because of the cold.

There are many lines of footprints in the sand. The sun shining through thin clouds casts a wide swath of light across the lake. Sitting on the beach looking at lake Michigan. Light glimmers off the waves. There are some patches of blue sky between the thin clouds. A small wave is crashing on shore and although there are more clouds in the sky the sun is shining brighter.

The other thing about Nancy Pelosi is that, like all of us who are Cassandras in political science, she was right about the need for a strong Republican Party (by which she, & we, mean a strong pro-democracy conservative party). This is deeply unpopular on Bluesky dot com, but no less true for it.

No, really, we need a strong pro-democracy conservative party to survive as a democracy. Nancy Pelosi & everyone you don't like for saying that are correct. You don't have to support it, or vote for it. You may hate its policies. But the survival of democracy requires it.

Lake Michigan looks beautiful all up and down the coast. I would love to be able to just swim to those islands
Lake Michigan as seen from the top of a very tall dune. The sky is full of clouds, and in the vast expanse of water are islands with forests. Looking at a closer island you can see it has sand dunes with trees on top. Looking in the other direction is another island whose forests start to turn blue as they disappear into the distance. Looking down the dune we are standing on, the waves are crashing far below.

I went north a few weeks ago to get an early look at the fall colors and in a little bit I might go south to see some more
