Here's what happens to filmstrips when it's too late. The binder chemical fails, freeing the dye layers. The moment this happens, whatever was on the film is lost forever. It'll happen to all of them. Your support = more saved films.

Did you know I was featured in @archive.org's Vanishing Culture Report? 1,300 filmstrips preserved. 3,000 more waiting.

Hitting our GoFundMe goal for 2026 would buy 12 months of full-time work on this. We're currently only at $254.

1,300 filmstrips preserved and on @archive.org. 3,000 to go.

Our 2026 GoFundMe is only at $254 of $30K. Hitting our goal means saving them full-time instead of doing DoorDash, and prevent thousands of films from becoming #lostmedia.

NEWLY RESTORED AT @archive.org: This zero-budget anti-drug #filmstrip is hosted by a beloved Kansas City kid's show host and her homemade puppets, who talk to each other about the dangers of playing with pills. Have you ever raided Mom's medicine cabinet?

We have all this technology, and yet if you need a tooth pulled they still just grab a pair of pliers, hold you down, and pull, like we’re the in 12th century and they’re trying to exorcise an evil spirit

Scanned and uploaded to @archive.org: This 1949 #filmstrip on the Spanish conquistador Hernán Cortés still has its rich colors because it was printed before Kodak's infamous Eastmancolor stock was invented.

Scanned and uploaded to @archive.org: This #filmstrip from the U.S. Office of Education might as well be called "What is Eastmancolor," as the film stock has faded to the point where nobody is ever learning about colors from this one.

Scanned and uploaded to @archive.org: I'm not 100% sure, but "Young America Sings" was a #filmstrip series for music education in the 50s. I've never found a soundtrack record for any of them, so we can only speculate what was actually happening in them.

Scanned and uploaded to @archive.org: This #filmstrip seems to be an advertisement for the same company's learning program for students on reel-to-reel tape. Ironically, it's missing its soundtrack. archive.org/details/...

Scanned and uploaded to @archive.org: This #filmstrip for young children introduces them to the concept of a square with photos of squares out in the world, but it's hard to tell anymore as it's missing its soundtrack.

Last year I raised $6,000 of a $30,000 goal for filmstrip preservation. That means I spent most of my time doing DoorDash instead of safeguarding them at @archive.org.

This year I'm trying to be honest about what I need. Even a small donation makes a difference.
