his favorite mistake

Sometimes Kohaku looks at him with a scowl that forces Madara to confront what he believes he already knows: that Kohaku realizes that he’s a mistake.

Madara reminds himself of this, every once in a while. Whenever things get too tender between them. Whenever their lips meet and there’s a second of pause for them to think and his mind overwhelms him even though he wishes for otherwise.

It shouldn’t hurt. He should know. And isn’t it the truth? Shouldn’t he be pragmatic enough to accept that?

But it’s always Kohaku who makes it so hard to feel like a mistake.

Because after the scowl would come a hold of his hand.

After the silence there will always come another kiss, or another embrace, or another whisper of his name that is far too affectionate to be true.

He is a mistake, he knows.

But he seems to be Kohaku’s favorite mistake to make.

She used to want to grow up as quickly as possible.

Maybe, when she’s large enough, she will finally be able to find that sparkle she’s looking for. She will be able to find it in places she’s never reached before — or perhaps, she will find that having grown, the sparkles will finally take form upon the surface of her skin.

But she’s stopped wanting to, now.

It’s because she found her sparkle, yes. The most beautiful, the most blinding, all when she runs next to Brian. She doesn’t have to grow to see it, she simply has to be who she is when Brian is by her side.

Yet at the same time, it’s because she wants to keep it.

If she’s grown up, what's next? Would the sparkle before her be different? Or worse, would it be gone entirely?

So, she wants to stay here for now.

She wants to run with the most beautiful sparkle or gold, right beside her.

Belonging to her, like a sunset for two.
