Coral Castle in Florida is arguably the world's heaviest love letter built by Edward Leedskalnin (1887-1951) after his fiancée left him a day before their wedding. He spent 30 years bullding it all by himself, using 1,000 tons of oolitic limestone blocks cut to unusually high accuracy, using homemade tools and no mortar or formal training. When asked why he built it, he would only reply
"Sweet Sixteen,
" referring to his fiancée.

The Pepsi 349 Incident was probably the worst PR disaster in corporate history.
In the Philippines in 1992, Pepsi printed numbers in bottlecaps that won prizes, including a top prize of a million pesos if you got the number 349. Unfortunately, 800,000 extra "349" bottlecaps were mistakenly put into circulation, and Pepsi couldn't pay up (the prize value totalled $32 billion). This led to lawsuits, public outrage, protests, riots, and even bomb and arson attacks that lett live dead.

Mad Hatter Disease or Erethism affected hatmakers in the 19th century. They handled mercury to treat felt while making hats, which led to mercury poisoning and brain damage. As a result, hatmakers were known for having eccentric personalities and jittery behavior; hence the phrase, "mad as a hatter," and the Lewis Carroll character.

YouTuber Mutekimaru has a motion tracking camera that inputs his pet fish's movements into a Nintendo switch, letting them "play" video games while the internet watched. I'ne fish even beat Pokemon Sapphire in 2020. However in 20R3, while Mutekimaru was away, the game crashed and loaded the main menu. The fish's inputs then opened the Nintendo eshop, added 500 yen to his account, exposed nis credit cara to the livestream, downloaded an N64 emulator, set up a payra, made purchases, and even changed his username to "ROWAWAWA·."

Cho Chabudai Gaeshi (translated
"Super Dinner Table Flipping") was a popular Japanese arcade game by Taito in 2009, where you flip a physical table in a social setting to score points. Scenarios include: A father arguing with his family; an angry bride at her wedding; and a frustrated office worker. Flipping the table hard enough results in various objects (like the wedding cake) being hurled into the air and crashing to the floor or through a window, scoring more points.

An Alaska Airlines plane collided with a fish on March 30, 1987. An eagle, carrying a large fish in its talons, flew into the path of the 737. When it saw the plane coming, it dropped its meal to get out of the way. The falling fish struck the plane just above the windshield, causing minor damage.
Newspapers mentioned it the next day, April 1st, leading people to believe it was an April Fools joke. But it did happen, and remains the only recorded incident of an aircraft striking a fish while in flight... so far, anyway.

In 1788, the Austro-Hungarian army lost a battle to itself at the Battle of Karansebes, in the worst friendly fire incident in history.
The army consisted of many ethnic groups who spoke different languages. One night, soldiers got drunk, thought they were under attack by the Turks, and began firing at each other. Attempts to stop the chaos were hindered by language barriers. While some records cite 10,000 casualties, the figure was probably closer to a few hundred.

Idiocracy (2006) was a movie about a future where the entire human race becomes very stupid, and "predicted" a lot of things decades in advance- including Crocs. The filmmakers wanted clothing that looked futuristic but stupid-looking; and discovered Crocs when they were still a new unknown company. So the movie features the ridiculous plastic footwear years before they actually became popular.

The Uttar Pradesh Association of Dead People was founded by Lal Bihari, an Indian farmer whose family bribed the police and government officials to declare him legally dead, so that they could take his land and property. To prove he was still alive, he had his wife apply for a widow's pension (which was denied); repeatedly tried to get arrested (so police would have to admit he's alive), and held his own "funeral." However, it still took 18 years for the government to finally correct his legal status. He was awarded an Ig Nobel Prize for his struggles in 2003.

The Coastline Paradox says the length of a coastline changes with how closely you measure it. If you use a big ruler and draw long, straight lines, you skip over all the craggy bits. But as you use a smaller and smaller ruler, you catch more detail, and end up measuring around individual rocks and boulders, until the measured coastline approaches infinity itself-- while the surface area remains broadly the same.
