The 52Frames challenge this week is “centered”. This is basically ignoring the rule of thirds and centering the subject. (https://troypatterson.me/?p=4609)

The challenge this week was shadows. I had a few options, but this was the one that I liked best. The shadow is cast from another gravestone. The shadow reminds me of a pawn in chess. (https://troypatterson.me/?p=4591)

Weekly Review 202506
## Post Update: Idea Board (Padlet Alternative) I’ve updated the last Weekly Review to include the examples of **Idea Board**. I’ve also added it to one of my Moodle sites so that I can start playing around with ideas. ## Josh Ritter I Believe in You, My Honeydew is now available. My copy arrived last night. I listened to it on the way into work this morning. Solid album. I strongly encourage supporting local artists. There are tons of really great artists out there. Go see a show. Buy an album if you can. ## novelWriter I’m checking out novelWriter. It seems to be similar to Scrivner, but open-source. There is nothing wrong with supporting good, commercial software. I have purchased Scrivner, though I don’t use it much. It was worth the price. I also believe in open-source software. This may work out well for you. ## iOS 26, Mac OS 26 I’ve updated to the newest OS for all of my devices. I have to say that much of the interface looks a bit “fuzzy” to me. That is, the icons and text are just not a clear and crisp as they use to be. I do kind of like the visual structures (rounded rectangles), but the clarity thing is bothersome. Naturally, my main iMac decided to go into convulsions. It seems that when I update the iMac, I need to unplug the external drives that are attached. Of course, I forget this until there is an issue. While simply unplugging the drives usually returns the update process activity, this time I had to invoke the DFU process. This means dragging another Mac to put next to the iMac, connecting them up with a USB-C cord and following very specific instructions. Fortunately, all is well. Middle School Matters was recorded and published on time. ## Our Past, Their Future It’s long been a question to be answered in my educational career, > Are we preparing kids for our past or their future? That question has been persistent for me. This has come up again as the discussion around phones and screens is one of the hot topics. It’s something that I’ll be continuing to think about and discuss. Share this post on social media. I've posted a "Periodic Table Personalities" on Middle School Matters.

Students answer a few questions to find that elemental connection. Students answer some (16) questions and then are presented with their "Element".

Thanks to Shawn McGirr.

Bad Presentation Habits

This screams bad presentation skills. Creating a PowerPoint presentation will result in tons of words on each slide. I regularly watch presentations that are speaker notes. I see presentations with literally paragraphs of text.

It was never just about schools, it was never just about libraries, and it isn't actually about the books.

It's about finding a way to banish entire people, entire ideas, out of society, back into the closet or worse.

Texas bill could punish bookstores for 'obscene' books
A new bill in the Texas Legislature, authored by Rep. Nate Schatzline, would allow businesses to be held liable if a minor reports damages from "obscene" books.

Looks like a good idea for PD this summer.
Recently, in PD, we offered an "AI Tasting Room" - Ts explored 8 free AI tools designed to support student-centered learning. Guided by the essential question, "How can AI enhance—not replace—student thinking in the classroom?", teachers collaborated, shared ideas, & experimented together.

When I was in second grade, on account of learning two languages, and having a terrible teacher who didn’t teach, I failed second grade. I ended up in summer school at Ft Clayton Air Force Base in Panama 🇵🇦 learning English phonics. I learned all about how to say words, sound them out, antonyms and homonyms and synonyms. Then, in third grade, Ms Kane helped me even more with phonics.
