The vampire seems to ignore him, walking a few steps away, wordlessly. Ashley watches him as he awkwardly tries to hop back into the sneakers he retrieved from his satchel (thinking “my dogs…”). Ashley muses, “But y’know, he doesn’t seem like a bad guy… And if he fights monsters like we do, that must mean he has the best interests of humans at heart, right…? Maybe he’d hear me out…” He casts his mind back to another time he’d seen this same vampire before, flying off into bats from atop a lamp post while Ashley had been in werewolf form, noticing him go with some curiosity. Ashley continues to think, “He never really says anything when we bump into each other, but he doesn’t turn aggressive or wary either… and who knows when I’ll get another chance like this to extend an olive branch…!” Nervously, he speaks up, catching the vampire’s attention with an “Um!” The vampire glances over his shoulder from where he’s stooped to pick up the two halves of the Nymph’s shell which fell on top of the grate. Ashley: “That was… really cool! You were so quick, and precise, you must have a lot of experience - y’know, I have a lot of experience myself- fighting monsters I mean- Uh. I know it probably doesn’t look like it today but I’m usually a lot more competent actually, promise.” Focusing back on Ashley the reader can see that he’s getting flustered, gesturing to himself as he continues to ramble- “So, um, if you ever needed, like, a hand with this stuff, you know, like you helped me out just now-” (What the hell am I saying, he briefly wonders before he goes on-) “Oh! Thank you! By the way! I should’ve said! Thanks… for… the assist…” He trails off again as the vampire, saying nothing, stands again, giving Ashley a critical look. The vampire breaks into a sly grin, his eyebrow raised, and says “Not like it was hard.” Ashley, drawn as the most pitiful doodle you could possibly imagine, and against a kicky little backdrop of pink stars, imagines with a dry smile "Reconciliation between our factions may remain an impossible dream.” He soldiers on, clasping his hands together and trying to continue - “Haha, true, I can see how it might sound funny of me to offer to help you when you clearly didn’t need it, but if there comes a time when you find yourself in a pickle, I just wanted to say-” while he was talking the vampire seemed to have noticed something and interrupts him just to shush him. Ashley gets out a flat “bro” before he startles with the same realisation. “Blood!” He thinks, nose wrinkling. “And… no…” Ashley hears a faint voice, represented by an audio wave taking the form of the words “help me”. He breaks into a run, following a stream of red to represent the scent trail of the blood, while overhead the flock of bats casts shadows on Ashley and the road as they fly at full speed in the same direction. Ashley and the bats stumble across a horrific scene, Ashley grimacing as he thinks “I was right…! It really is another werewolf!” An emaciated werewolf is hunched over two prone human bodies, surrounded by pools of blood and silhouetted against black and red. It is loosing great plumes of steam from its body, especially the mouth and the hollow sockets where its eyes once were. Intestines trail from its mouth to the gutted stomach of the male figure. The werewolf turns its remaining senses in Ashley’s direction and emits a low growl. Ashley’s brow furrows as he notes the purple veins pulsing across the werewolf’s exposed skin between the fur. “And it’s infected,” he thinks.

A scar runs through his left eye leaving the pupil permanently dilated, making it appear darker than his right eye.
