As stressful as it is to run a laboratory in the US right now, my thoughts are often with the NIH staff living in the awful chaos trying to preserve the whole enterprise. I’m grateful for every moment they choose not to give up. These people are the only thing keeping it from entirely collapsing.

The House Appropriations Subcommittee for HHS markup is scheduled for July 21 and full comm July 24. Not much time. Make those calls ☎️ to your congressional leaders NOW 🚨! Make sure they hear the devastation that will happen to research 🔬, training 👩🏽‍🔬 and health 🩺 if the proposed cuts go forward.

Thank you @universite-caen.bsky.social. American scientists thank you for Standing UpFor Science! #standupforscience #standupforsciencefr
I was so disappointed that I would miss #standupforscience because I’m in France for a meeting. But look what I found!!! The solidarity in France is amazing and heartwarming. If they are supporting us in France, we should all be out today! Thank you University of Caen!!

Ok scientists & those who love science 🧪: here is another exhortation. Call Congress TODAY about the freeze on NIH Council Meetings and Study Sections. Emphasize that this means NO new grants are being funded & labs will soon start to shut down and fire employees. Phone numbers are at:

So a former postdoc from our department had just started as a PO at NIH and was terminated in the wave of terminations last week. He is in the research triangle and a phenomenal scientist with expertise in stress and glia. If anyone in the RTI is hiring asap please let me know! #neuroskyence

I was heartbroken to hear this news. As a collaborator, I STRONGLY endorse Justin’s scientific skills. He is a brilliant experimentalist, supportive mentor, and incredible writer and presenter. He will add value to ANY scientific team. Please spread the word. Justin, I am so so sorry. 😞
I was hoping that my first bsky post would be more cheerful. I recently joined NIH (NIEHS) as a PO. I fought hard for this position and was so excited to support health science from a new vantage point… I picked up my life and moved to NC. Unfortunately, my time at NIEHS was short lived.

Helpful table to determine how much your University or health system is set to lose if the NIH indirect cap is suddenly lowered to 15%. For SJSU it is $374k which is on the smaller end but devastating considering our other budget issues. datawrapper.dwcdn.net/l0ZqA/8/
