The AI hype train is on the fast track towards technofeudalism. This is why I keep asking people to look out the window and show me something different.

Unfortunately enough people are along for the ride and don't care where we end up.

What if…
Vibe coding was actually created by the cyber security industry.

I mean… it’s not TOTALLY crazy to think 😅

I feel like a lot of automations folks are doing with agents can probably be done mostly by shell scripts in a more deterministic fashion. Maybe just use a LLM for some categorization, instead of to do the whole thing.

If your language has null, sometimes null checks can hide bigger problems depending on what you do when you check for null.

When a thing shouldn't be null and your system relies on it, crashing on a nullpointer exception can be the right thing to do.

The stack trace will illuminate the issues.

If you were doing a new home network and POE cameras from scratch what would you go with?

For those who only focus on global politics, remember the people who get there for the most part start locally.

Pay attention to your local community and participate so that the next generation of politicians looks more like what you want.

I am happiest and proudest of my work when I am building things for other developers. I'd love to begin contributing to a meaningful, open source project, but I'm not sure where to even start.

You can test new tech ideas using the Seinfeld Test

Would the product eliminate the plot of an episode? (Google maps, cell phones, paypal, battery packs)

Good tech.

Would the product inspire new Seinfeld plots? (NFTs, AI chatbots, crypto currency, blindboxes, metaverse land sales)

Bad tech.

I decided to install cachyos on my desktop yesterday.

Impressed, Nvidia drivers worked super well right out the box.

I only really use that computer for steam games, and it's worked flawlessly so far. I really wanted something no maintenance for that machine and it's delivered so far.

“Don’t want to throw the baby out with the bath water”

“Miss the forest through the trees”

Something about sayings like these just instantly annoy me.

@tangled.org not sure what happened I deleted this repo through tangled .org (tangled.org/treybastian....) -- to remake it because I couldn't stand the casing 😅

it deleted on my knot, but something went wrong in the app view it appears.

pretty sure I'm going to make atbrew minimum java 25 which is current lts

does that mean some people won't be able to use it?

sure, I mean there's ways to add support for older versions later too if the need arises

I'm 100% prioritising how I want to write this thing for me

Everyday is a school day.

I never really thought too hard about why union and intersection types are named the way they are I just kinda was like a | b, a & b cool.

For some reason when reading about atproto lexicons I really thought about it.

This is a new one for me. I had to send a load of docs to my lawyer, so I zipped them up.

I got the response zip files are not secure you'll have to send the contents separately.

I can't think of an attack vector purely on the zip file format that would cause extraction to be more dangerous.

We need to take the term Trump Derangement Syndrome

I propose this is the new definition:

When republicans and supporters of the MAGA movement believe any lie that Donald Trump and his administration say even in the face over overwhelming evidence to the contrary.
