Kinda wild seeing NWSL fight a $1m/yr contract for a player who is, by far, their most valuable star at the moment, in a year we’ve seen 21yo Olivia Smith go for close to 1.5m and AT get lured away from ~1.3m.
Globally, every other league has no issue breaking the bank for superstar talent.

this is a global market with transfer fees and salaries rising and the nwsl is the only top woso league with strict (and manufactured) financial limits. if you're a star who believes you are—or one day will be—good enough to earn $1m/yr, the commissioner just told you there's no place for you here.
