Hi there folks, I know I’ve been quiet lately and even more so in the past few weeks. I’ll be back, but not sure when. bsky.app/profile/sher...
I surely missed a few folks in the email I sent to friends, family, & neighbors a while ago. After discussing RH’s survival & treatment outlook with medical staff, I decided to bring him home for hospice, which I know is his preference in this situation.
You have a significant if small typo where you note the 4% ...
Anyway, I like spicy foods and I just wanted to read about them rather than critique the magazine. 🙃
Even acknowledging there certainly are niche markets, this particular instance is not an extreme niche in which you have any reason to exclude nondrivers as your potential base.
Another thing is that if you are a publication that is in the tourism or hospitality space, don’t you really want to be a maximizing the audience and potential customer base? This does the opposite, out of the gate.
For one thing, I have found that a lot of people who can drive assume that some places are simply too inconvenient or impossible to reach even if they are served by transit. When in fact they’re just not aware of all the options and tools that might be available.
OTOH, I appreciate this as a warning. OTOH, it’s frustrating that the author doesn’t even consider that driving is not an option for a lot of folks.
A favorite backpacking food is any kind of flatbread such as tortillas, naan, etc. plus Thai peanut sauce, which does not need refrigeration.

On Sept. 17, this Transit Trekker webinar is bringing nondrivers to leaders & transpo/planning professionals in rural communities & small cities — locations where participating in the #WeekWithoutDriving comes w/ the highest barriers. Please join & share broadly w/ colleagues in these regions.
I love the CAT bus! I house sit in Hood River several times a year and it’s the only reason that I can do so! Plus it connects to other services that are pretty close to trailhead and bike paths.
The village shuttle appears to be fare free at this time. The express is $2 each way or $5 for a day pass. Pretty great deal.
OK, so the Express do NOT do flag stops.
But there is a shuttle in Mt. Hood Village and that immediate area that DOES do flag stops or route deviation (i.e. call at least 24 hours ahead time to get picked up w/i 3/4 mile of a stop).
So many car-free recreation possibilities on this route.
Oregon really has some good transit trekking going for it. The Mt. Hood Express runs 7 days a week year-round, except for a couple of holidays. From Sandy, outside of PDX, up to Timberline Lodge. And I spy bike racks on this vehicle!

Just like the early runs of Trailhead Direct Mt. Si tend to be borderline crushloaded, the bike racks are always full and leave people with bikes behind.
"Seasonal service features include bike trailers and ski boxes for the convenience of riders to stow their equipment."

We should be able to do bike trailers for #TrailheadDirect here in King County. The Mt. Si route stops blocks from the Snoqualmie Valley Trail. @cascade.org @kingcounty.gov

ooop, I deleted the QP about flag stops. That might only be for the Village Shuttle. Gonna contact them to confirm.

Thank you especially to @rideact.bsky.social and park district board member Lynda Deschambault for tabling with us! Your passion for the outdoors and for equitable access is what made this event possible :)

Thank you to everyone who made it out to the redwoods with me this morning! It was great getting to meet so many other people excited about getting outdoors car free!
Would love to hear how this goes.
And by “you” it should be clear that I mean Katie Wilson.
If you can manage hundreds and possibly thousands of unpaid people to allocate their free time or something they are not going to directly and immediately benefit from, I am confident you can learn to delegate to your deputies effectively as a newly elected executive.
