Found a type specimen sheet scan I liked online, so I Photoshopped some improvements 🌈 for now (want to recreate if w/letterpress & a more-colors rainbow gradient, if I ever have access to the right sizes of Bernhard Gothic Medium type...) #letterpress
A historical American Type Founders brochure spread that's been digitally edited to make it queer. It uses Bernhard Gothic Medium type and says in red, small, all caps: "Bernhard Gothic Medium Queer". Large type that's dark charcoal over an offset olive edge, with the 3 queerest words having a red-orange-purple gradient offset edge instead, says "Queer Type is the Product of Queer Craftsmen Who Take Great Pride in Doing Their Work WELL!" Small type at the bottom, all caps, red, says "American Type Founders Company Improved". The page has been digital edited to remove some of the noise from the see-through type on the page backs visible in the original (next image). Original scan of a historical American Type Founders brochure spread. It uses Bernhard Gothic Medium type and says in red, small, all caps: "Bernhard Gothic Medium" (missing the final word "queer" that I added in my Photoshopped image). Large type that's dark charcoal over an offset olive edge says "American Type is the Product of American Craftsmen Who Take Great Pride in Doing Their Work WELL!" Small type at the bottom, all caps, red, says "American Type Founders Company" ("American" instead of "Queer" as photoshopped in the previous image, and without the added final word "improved". The image hasn't been cleaned in Photoshop, so more noise from the pages being mildly transparent and having dark type on their backs is visible.

I am looking for recommendations for recent scholarship about the English Civil War from a literary historical perspective, what have you got? Realizing that both my knowledge and confidence in that knowledge crater c. 1640.

. @mikevdsanden.bsky.social: "What melodies can be found in typography?" Uses Processing+VCV Rack to treat digital font characters as piano rolls, generate viz+sound files from "playing" over them:

What melodies can be found in typography? (🔊 SOUND ON)The question popped into my head while I was experimenting with audio in VCV Rack. I imagined characters becoming a piano roll. Could I connect Processing? Once I had a proof of concept, I was hooked. Over the past few weeks, I built it out, adding features as I went.Processing sends MIDI note data — pitch, velocity, and gate — to VCV Rack. The tool is built on layered tracks: each track can be routed to its own channel and has tweakable options. You can change the character sequence, typeface, and clock speed. I’ve added multiple scales. Currently all in C, but I can imagine the system could grow into a full instrument. To prevent floods of notes, each track has a range control on the right: drag the top or bottom rows to set the active band.I had a lot of fun building this tool. It gave me a chance to combine my love for music with coding. For context, I’m a beginner in VCV Rack: most of my patches came from tutorials. If you’re experienced with VCV Rack, I’d love to see what you can make with it. There’s a download link on my website.➡️ I added a small tutorial in the last slide to get you started.Typefaces from the The font starter pack by @pangram.pangram. #vcvrack #processing #graphicdesign #creativecoding #genartclub #procedual #coding #motiongraphics #newmedia #new_media_art #digitalart #modernart #computerart #processing #contemporarytype #type01 #modularsynth #webgl #typespire #posterdesign #typedesign #typedaily #showusyourtype #kinetictypography #interactiondesign

I think it was @kennedyprints.bsky.social who said cooper black is the typeface of the revolution. I’d wear the heck out of this shirt.

Not in all caps, but I have that shirt. I'd buy it again to give PBS money though, and I get comments every time I wear it.

Your challenge for this weekend is to put in an abstract for Queer Bibliography 2026. It's what all the cool kids are doing.

The theme is Space, Place, Community (widely understood, certainly not limited to the South). CFP: shorturl.at/XAVJ0; Submit: forms.gle/XD7FgrrStp3j...

Athens GA and online
Poster reads: March 12–14, 2026; Queer Bibliography in the South: Space, Place, Community; University of Georgia, Athens, GA.

a thin layer of kerosene I think is the best. Also, as a general rule, you should oil the press every time you use it to keep it in the best working order. Some might say this is over kill but that's how I was trained.
transbookhistory.bsky.social
Or use a more gentle scotchbrite scrubber instead of steel wool.
transbookhistory.bsky.social
I think you can still use the 50/50 lemon and vinegar and very fine steel wool. I will admit that I keep the ink disk on my C&P maintained by wiping it down with kerosene after every cleaning.
transbookhistory.bsky.social
you can probably use a 50/50 lemon juice and vinegar solution in a spray bottle with very fine steel wool. Dry thoroughly and then seal with paste wax.
transbookhistory.bsky.social
love the table tops. I have several Kelseys which are even more like your Adana.
transbookhistory.bsky.social
I recommend Johnson's Paste Wax if you can get it there.
transbookhistory.bsky.social
you don't need to repaint it. You can take the current paint and rust off and the use a wax to seal the original iron black patina.
