Let’s get together to help out the Trigg family! Supervisor Betty Duong and I invite you to join us at Jack's Bar next month to help these mainstays of the Japantown community get back on their feet.
Ribbon cuttings are one of the best parts of my job, because we get to celebrate folks investing in our city and show everyone that Downtown San José is the place to be. That’s why I was excited to join in welcoming Poppy & Claro to our downtown!
I had the pleasure of taking part in Smith Carlos Day at San Jose State University. Tommie Smith and John Carlos stand as examples to all of us (Spartans or not!) who have a platform. Whether that platform is an Olympic podium or the dais at City Hall, we must use it to forward the cause of justice.
Today we kicked off the Larry Itliong Way project! And what better time to do it than Filipino American History Month? Larry Itliong’s story remains largely forgotten, absent from textbooks and unacknowledged in the places where history is made visible. It’s time to change that.
It’s hockey night in San José! Last night we didn’t just celebrate opening night for the Sharks — we also unveiled the newly renamed Sharks Way. While the Golden Knights were able to steal a win in overtime, we’ll get them next time! 🦈 🏒
Did you know that our first D3 Town Hall is less than a month away? You can RSVP at bit.ly/D3TownHallNov2025 to submit your questions and feedback about how our office and your city government can better serve you. Thanks and see you there!
My office presented our first proclamation this week in celebration of Filipino American Heritage Month! As San José's first Filipino American councilmember, it was my honor to celebrate the contributions of San José's FilAm community and to be a small piece of that history.
As my office works on policy solutions to the issues facing Japantown, I’m committed to making sure local leaders like these are at the table to ensure the best possible outcomes for the neighbors, businesses, and institutions that make this neighborhood special. (2/2)
My team and I spent Saturday w/the Japantown Community Congress, having great conversations about the collaborative work these local leaders do in maintaining one of our cultural treasures. Then we took a neighborhood tour, led by Japantown Business Association Vice President Jim Nagreda. (1/2)

This is exactly why we need local infrastructure to support EVs! Cities like San Jose, CA, and Erie, CO require EV charging stations with certain types of new development. This is how we start to decarbonize our transport! Shoutout to LCPN member @tordillosd3.bsky.socialn🔌 #cities #climatepolicy
New analysis confirms it: EVs produce fewer emissions than gas cars—even when you account for battery production, cold weather, and coal-heavy grids.

That’s why we elect leaders who invest in clean transportation and make EVs accessible to everyone.
Are EVs really better for the environment? Study checks role of coal, battery and range
The University of Michigan study estimated EV, hybrid and gas emissions on a county-by-county basis to see how each powertrain measures up.

I’m especially proud that our first office-led memo was related to affordable housing. Gateway Tower, a 100% affordable development in the heart of the SoFA District, will have 10 units set aside for the artists that make our arts district one of the cultural and economic engines of our city. (2/2)
I walked into work today with a smile on my face because last night, City Council passed the first memo led by my office! (1/2)

Let me be clear: no one in San José should live in fear. As the Trump Administration finds new ways to circumvent the law, we must be ready to fight back.

If you see something, say something. Reach out to the Rapid Response Network about any suspected ICE activity at 408-290-1144.
Serving on a local board or commission is a great way to make an impact on San José! Applications close in ONE WEEK, so learn more and apply at bit.ly/SJCommissions!
Happy Hispanic Heritage Month! Today I celebrated by joining the Latinx Read In at Horace Mann Elementary. My book was Waiting for the Biblioburro by Monica Brown. 📚 🫏

Thank you to Mrs. Silveira’s class for having me and asking such great questions! It was a great way to start my day.
Mark your calendars for a block party in our newest downtown district! East Village San Jose is shutting down Santa Clara Street for a block party on Thursday, September 18. Visit bit.ly/EastVillageSept18 to get your FREE tickets. I’ll see you there!
Last night I had the honor of celebrating my very first Mexican Flag Raising as your Councilmember! This celebration wasn’t just about Mexico’s independence. We recognized the contributions the Mexican community has made to the heart and soul of San José.

¡Que viva México, y que viva San José! 🇲🇽
