One of your parents is a villain, and you’ve taken up hero work to oppose them. Whether they’re a local bandit captain, a corrupt noble, a dark cultist, or an even more dangerous foe, your single-minded dedication to bringing them down can get you in over your head.
Benefit and Drawback: While in battle against your parent’s forces, at the start of each round, you gain 1 surge and become taunted by the highest-EV enemy in the encounter (ties broken by the Director).

Power Roll + Reason:
<=11:	5 fire damage; push 2 from the center of the area; a target at the center is I<W dazed (EoT)
12–16:	7 fire damage; push 3 from the center of the area; a target at the center is I<A dazed (EoT)
17+	9 fire damage; push 5 from the center of the area; a target at the center is I<S dazed (EoT)
Effect: Each ally target ignores the power roll and can use a free triggered action to make a wish, allowing them to gain 1 of their Heroic Resource, gain 3 surges, or spend a Recovery. An ally who chooses to spend a Recovery can also end one effect on them that is ended by a saving throw or that ends at the end of their turn, or stand up if prone.
Persistent 2: At the start of your turn, you can use a free maneuver to call down another star, creating one additional 3 cube within 10.

Your connection to shadows is so strong, you seem to flicker and disappear from sight in the bink of an eye. Whenever you use Shadowmeld while you have concealment from darkness or shadows, you can first teleport a number of squares equal to your highest characteristic score. You don’t need line of effect to your destination as long as it’s within the same area of darkness or shadow that you started in.

Scion of the Deep	Title
My lungs filled with water and my vision went black. Little did I know my last breath was truly my first.
Prerequisite (3rd Echelon): You die underwater in the presence of a powerful aquatic being, such as a kraken.
Effect: You are restored to life, but your appearance is permanently altered with clammy skin, extraneous tentacles, fins, gills, scales, sharp teeth, or some other accent determined by the Director. You gain the Waterborn complication and choose one of the following additional benefits:
Invocation of Fathomless Will: The first time in an encounter that you become dying, you gain two surges.
Invocation of Shared Breath: Each time you finish a respite, you can choose any number of allies who are also finishing a respite. Until you finish another respite, each ally chosen this way can breathe underwater, can automatically swim at full speed while moving, and has lightning weakness 5.
Invocation of Surging Tides: Once per turn when you
push or pull a creature, you can use a free triggered action to shift a number of squares equal to half the forced movement distance.

A stat block for "the Tyrant-Moon", a battlefield terrain modifier for the Draw Steel RPG.
And the heroes can negate 0, 1, or 2 minion squads. Overall people using this have reported that it adds more drama, stakes, and fun decision-making to montages. Here are links to the Discord thread and explainer doc!

Everything else is broadly the same. ~2 rounds, heroes pitch their skills and can assist tests or use abilities. Like normal, some can be done more than once. Here, the Director might gain 0, 3, or 6 Malice depending on how many times the heroes tackle Psionic Viewfinders.
Ah, yeah, should have specified: on the MCDM Discord! But basically it works the same as a normal montage test, just instead of flatly accumulating successes, each test has a direct reward or consequence that is shown beforehand. So the players can choose what risks and rewards to prioritize!

Infiltrate the Gala	Montage Challenge
The heroes must infiltrate a grand gala hosted by none other than their greatest enemy — or, at least, one of their politically oriented subordinates. While it would be foolish for either party to kick off a ballroom brawl, there’s no telling what secrets they might uncover behind closed doors...
Inspired by @fluttersprite. Rather than accumulating successes, the players must choose which Threats they want to negate and which Opportunities they want to claim before the two rounds are over. Players tackle Threats and Opportunities the same way they tackle challenges in a normal Montage Test.

THREATS
Attract Suspicion: The host automatically goes first in their next combat.
Remain beneath notice to keep your gracious host from suspecting an attack.
Hounded by Petty Scandal: -2 Renown among attendees.
Demonstrate your etiquette and good behavior to the gathered nobles to avoid the stale whiff of impropriety. 
Lose a Duel: One hero loses 3 Recoveries. 
Remember that War College graduate you humiliated in battle last week? They’re back and itching for a chance to prove themself with steel.
Psionic Viewfinders [x2]: The Director gains 3 Malice in your next combat encounter against the host.
Avoid, disable, mislead, or resist the psychic intrusions of the viewfinders strategically placed around the castle.

OPPORTUNITIES
Behind Closed Doors [x2]: Discover a key piece of intel about your host.
Search the castle, charm guests, pickpocket your host, do whatever it takes to learn what you need.
Earn Patronage: Recruit an artisan or sage follower.
Woo a noble’s favor, romantically or otherwise, and they’ll keep you replete with resources and lore.
Impress the Crowd: +1 Renown among attendees. 
They’ll remember you, that’s for sure.
Sow Rumors [x2]: Remove one minion squad from your next combat encounter against the host.

Will-o’-the-Wisp	Minion
The entrancing flicker of the will-o’-the-wisp carries a supernaturally captivating power. Even the wariest of travelers has been known to follow these tiny floating orbs of multicolored light off the road — and, inevitably, to their doom.

Chilling Phasing: The wisp can move through creatures and objects at their usual speed, but can’t end their turn inside a creature or object. The first time in a round that any wisp moves through a creature, that creature takes 2 cold damage. The wisp doesn’t take damage from being force-moved into objects.

Detonate: When the wisp is reduced to 0 Stamina, grabbed, restrained, or knocked prone, they burst into a necromantic flare, dealing 2 corruption damage to each adjacent enemy.

Day #5: Masquerade
Upholding the Mystery	Complication
Whether you were born into it, stumbled into it, or sought it out, you’ve found yourself in the midst of a secret world living just behind the facade of mundane society. Sworn to secrecy, membership in this masquerade provides many esoteric benefits — but if you ever let the secret slip, you’re through.
Benefit: Whenever you make a project roll in an area where your secret society is present, you can roll three dice and choose which two to use. You gain a bonus to Renown among other members of the secret society equal to your echelon.
Drawback: The secret society forbids you from allowing artisan or sage followers to work on your projects. If you do so anyway and are discovered, if you tell a non-member about the secret society, or if you expose its existence in any way, the secret society disavows you, putting a price on your head that obligates all other members to hunt you down. Other heroes can contribute to your projects without issue, but the same restriction applies to their followers as well.

Day #4: Dark Woods
Dimmerwood Trees	DTO
Originally cultivated on Equinox, dimmerwood trees appear on Orden as oily, liquid shadows, like ink or charcoal drawings made real. They make for a more subtle form of protection and obscurement, favored by denizens of the wode who don’t want visitors. Dimmerwood seeds are prized magical reagents; graduates of the College of Black Ash are known to harvest them for use in their shadow magic.

These inky black trees seem to absorb light from the surrounding area, instilling nearby creatures with a constant sense of dread.
Stamina: 15 per square	Size: 2

Deactivate: The grove must be completely destroyed. Each time one square of the grove is destroyed, the size of the grove’s aura decreases by 2 (to a minimum of 1).

Looming Dread: The dimmerwood grove projects a 1 aura of viscous shadow. At the start of each turn while at least one square of the grove is intact, the size of the aura increases by 1. Each creature in the area is frightened of each other creature in the area. When the size of the aura reaches 10, each creature in the area takes 10 corruption damage, and the aura resets to 1.

What Was That?! Creatures in the grove’s aura have concealment. Whenever a creature in the grove’s aura hides, they may make a % free strike before hiding and teleport to any other unoccupied space in the aura after hiding.

Brew Concoction	Crafting Project

Goal: 45 (yields 1d3 potion doses)
Item Prerequisite: Two different item prerequisites from treasure crafting projects
When you start this project, you toss the item prerequisites into a bubbling cauldron with a variety of other random ingredients, some magical, some mundane. The majority of the time spent crafting involves watching the cauldron to make sure it doesn’t boil over or burn, and occasionally stirring it.
When you complete this project, roll on the Unstable Brews table. You create 1d3 doses of a potion with the rolled effect. A creature can drink one dose as a o free maneuver.

Unstable Brews

1	Take 1d6 poison damage and gain two surges.
2	Vertically slide yourself 5 squares, ignoring stability.
3	Remove all edges and banes on your next ability roll.
4	Push each adjacent creature 2 squares.
5	Gain a +3 bonus to stability until the start of your next turn.
6	Belch 1d10 fire damage in a 3 cube within 1.
7	+2 melee or +5 ranged distance bonus to your next ability.
8	Gain 10 temporary Stamina and become slowed (save ends).

Spell Sculptor	Title
The wizard who studies magic can cast spells. The wizard who studies geometry can build manifolds.
Prerequisite (2nd Echelon): You defeat three or more non-minion enemies on a turn with one use of an Area ability.
Effect: Choose one of the following benefits:
Golden Ratio: Whenever you use an Area ability, you may spend 1 of your Heroic Resource to choose one additional target adjacent to the ability’s area.
No Straight Lines: Whenever you use a cube or line ability, you may spend 1 of your Heroic Resource to convert the distance to a wall instead. An X cube is converted to an X-squared wall, and an A x B line is converted to an A wall. 
Zero Point: Whenever you use an aura or burst ability, you may spend 1 of your Heroic Resource to choose another creature in the area. The area originates from that creature instead of you.
