So he was stupid in his younger years but then learnt to be a better person eventually voting for the civil rights act and Martin Luther King Day.
![In 1946, Byrd wrote a letter to Samuel Green, the Ku Klux Klan's Grand Wizard, stating, "The Klan is needed today as never before, and I am anxious to see its rebirth here in West Virginia and in every state in the nation".[32] The same year, he was encouraged to run for the West Virginia House of Delegates by the Klan's grand dragon; Byrd won, and took his seat in January 1947.[33][34] However, during his campaign for the United States House of Representatives in 1952, he announced that, "after about a year, I became disinterested, quit paying my dues, and dropped my membership in the organization", and that during the nine years that have followed, he had never been interested in the Klan.[36] He said he had joined the Klan because he felt it offered excitement and was anti-communist, but also suggested his participation there "reflected the fears and prejudices" of the time.[16][33]
Byrd later called joining the KKK "the greatest mistake I ever made".[7] In 1997, he told an interviewer he would encourage young people to become involved in politics but also warned, "Be sure you avoid the Ku Klux Klan. Don't get that albatross around your neck. Once you've made that mistake, you inhibit your operations in the political arena".[37] In his last autobiography, Byrd explained that he was a KKK member because he "was sorely afflicted with tunnel vision— a jejune and immature outlook—seeing only what I wanted to see because I thought the Klan could provide an outlet for my talents and ambitions".[38] Byrd also said in 2005, "I know now I was wrong. Intolerance had no place in America. I apologized a thousand times … and I don't mind apologizing over and over again. ![Byrd joined with Southern Democratic senators to filibuster the Civil Rights Act of 1964,[51] personally filibustering the bill for 14 hours, a move he later said he regretted.[52] Despite an 83-day filibuster in the Senate, both parties in Congress voted overwhelmingly in favor of the Act (Democrats 47–16, Republicans 30–2) with Byrd voting against,[53] and President Johnson would later sign the bill into law.[54] He did not sign the 1956 Southern Manifesto,[55] and voted in favor of the Civil Rights Acts of 1960 and the 24th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution.[56][57] Byrd voted in favor of the initial House resolution for the Civil Rights Act of 1957 on June 18, 1957,[58] but voted against the Senate amendment to the bill on August 27, 1957.[59] Byrd voted against the Voting Rights Act of 1965,[60][61][62] as well as the confirmation of Thurgood Marshall to the U.S. Supreme Court.[63] However, he voted for the Civil Rights Act of 1968. In 1983, Byrd voted in favor of making Martin Luther King Day a national holiday.[64] In 2005, Byrd told The Washington Post that his membership in the Baptist church led to a change in his views. And finally, here are some wizards who openly call themselves wizards. Reis from ABYSS is a fancy wizard lad, and so is his mother, Sophia. The son specializes in weather and lightning-calling. The mom is a generalist with a preference for fire-based spells. In this book, wizards are researchers.
