As Seán Binder goes on trial in Lesvos tomorrow for helping people in distress, @amnestyvl.bsky.social's director Wies de Graeve reflects on why people who save lives should be supported, not criminalized #HumanityMustWin www.politico.eu/article/sean...
People who save lives should not be criminalized
European governments are not only failing people seeking protection, they’re also punishing those who try to fill that dangerous gap.

Dat zegt kinderrechtenorganisatie Save The Children. Onderzoekers spraken 66 Sudanese minderjarigen die voor de oorlog vluchtten naar Egypte, Libië en de EU.

#Tunisia: after the release of one human rights defender, many others received harsh sentences in unfair trials. For disagreeing with Saied.

EU: defend human rights, demand the release of all political prisoners. Don’t sacrify our values for shortsighted own interests.
#Tunisia: Harsh sentences were issued in the notorious "conspiracy case" following sessions marred by serious violations. While some defendants were acquitted, other sentences included 45 years in prison.

👉 Tunisian authorities should revert these unjust sentences & release all political detainees.

Such a wonderful news that human rights defender Sonia Dahmani has been finally released!!!

This is an encouragement to the Parliament to keep calling for justice.
Amazing news from #Tunisia: lawyer & commentator Sonia Dahmani released from arbitrary detention; at same time as Euro-Parliament adopted critical resolution on her case

EU Governments need to protect people’s rights and fundamental freedoms in Hungary!

Today, MEPs supported our @tinekestrik.bsky.social in calling on Commission and Council to take action until Orban's government complies with EU values as enshrined in the treaties.

Yes! A broad majority of the Parliament agrees: the EU must take more action against Orbán!

My report on the rule of law in Hungary was adopted with a majority of 415 votes, urging to take away Orbán's voting rights and to freeze EU funds.

We must stop his breakdown of democracy and human rights.

Orbán’s hateful policies have real personal consequences.

This is especially the case for Hungarian LGBTQIA+ people, who have been scapegoated by the Orbán government and are being portrayed as a threat to children – an implication that is simply wrong and disgusting.

Apart from worrying signs of fraud, it’s devastating that the deeply divisive and criminal Dodik is still in power: he presides SNSD, Karan promised to continue his policies, he is backed by Trump.

We need a firm EU message that only integration and rule of law can count on funding and accession.
Independent elections monitors in BiH claim serious instances of fraud at nearly a quarter of all voting sites to replace Bosnian Serb secessionist Dodik as president of the RS entity. The 2022 RS presidency elections too were rerun due to fraud. www.klix.ba/vijesti/bih/...

Today's HRW report is once again a confirmation of the shocking war crimes and crimes against humanity committed by Israel in the West Bank. EU, open your eyes and act!
In early 2025, the Israeli military launched an operation that emptied three Palestinian refugee camps. They've blocked their residents from returning and razed many of their homes.

In a new report, HRW finds that Israeli forces carried out war crimes, ethnic cleansing and crimes against humanity.

It’s crucial that countries like Italy and Greece are recognised as needing support. But it’s striking how many others are now also considered ‘at risk’, often due to reception crises of their own making. The European Commission must ensure support goes to those who really need it.
EU to relocate asylum seekers from Spain, Italy, Greece and Cyprus
Spain, Italy, Greece and Cyprus are considered "under migratory pressure" by the European Commission, which paves the way to the relocation of asylum seekers to other EU member states. But Poland,…

Orbán buys one of the best-read newspapers of the country. This is a major deterioration in a media environment that is already heavily politically controlled, as highlighted in my recently adopted report. This cannot go on - there are no fair elections without free information!

Great news, my report on the Rule of Law situation in Hungary has just been approved by the LIBE Committee!

Our message is clear: the Rule of Law in Hungary has deteriorated on all fronts, and this has been made possible by the lack of decisive action by the Commission and the Council.

All praise to the frontrunners, who understand that the EU's door is open.

Let us keep that door open by not further delaying internal reforms.

Swift EU accession for Albania and Montenegro is the only way to boost reforms and work towards EU integration of the entire region.

As Egypt keeps bragging to the EU about its commitment to human rights, this week marks the 7th year of pretrial detention of Lawyer Hoda Abdel-Moneim, whose health is deteriorating.

Dat zei ik een paar maanden geleden bij Radar, maar die oproep is alleen maar urgenter geworden.

Denk hier alsjeblieft aan bij het uitbrengen van je stem.
