New on my channel! I have made the video I have always wanted to see, about the innovative filmmaker who directed the 1990 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles film and captured many millennials of a certain age. & the box office!

Why Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (1990) Is So Well Directed

It made me think of City Roofs.
John Williams score for Images, with Stomu Yamashta, is one of his best and often sounds nothing like John Williams, or even a film score.

Gloria Gresham was the costume designer on Body Double as well as Fletch, which shares a Nostromo crew hat. Maybe it was hers by that point.
I remember the press for this film in the UK when it was released.

There's a great Gladys Knight song on the soundtrack.

It also continued the innovative prosthetic make-up of Caglione/Drexler for Touchstone (Dick Smith in the photo with John Caglione, Jr).
Kostal's arrangement of The Night On Bald Mountain scene has some really unusual, military-style percussion during the opening.

I saw this several times on the big screen during the Eisner/Katzenberg rerelease. There's really no experience like it.

One day, I would really like to see it set to the 1982 Irwin Kostal rerecording of Stowkowski's original soundtrack.
It’s still remarkable that Disney produced - and released - this segment in 1940. A horror short that should rank with its Universal monster movie contemporaries… The animation is lush and experimental, and really shows off the Disney special animated effects team…

Get your kids off YouTube and get em on Tubi 😉
After leaving HBO Max earlier this year, ‘Looney Tunes’ is a hit on Tubi, the company says, and popular across generations. It should be a model for every classic cartoons trapped in streaming limbo.

I didn't notice that. I was too busy admiring how you made the dramatic backlight, used to separate Blackthorne from the background, disappear when the hatch opens, to maximise the finality of the closed doors.

Now I'll never unsee that hair!
I love how the bassy synth sequencer from David Shire's Short Circuit theme sounds like it could be from an early Prodigy tune.

Interesting that Disney's Talespin, set the same year as the Rocketeer (sort of), had an episode that aired months apart from the film, in which Baloo becomes a similar hero.
Check this wonderfully warm little ASMR based short out, if you haven’t already.
GREAT new little short film:

If you have 4.5 minutes and like comforting sounds and a view of a time that no longer exists, take a warm trip down a millennial memory lane of technology and ASMR.

What an opening shot, literally!
I can’t be the only Saturday morning Millennial to double take at this product.
With a gratuitously dodgy yet awesome music edit transition (in a higher pitch) to him on 2:54 on the music video. I love the boldness.
The music video seems to be filmed entirely on a steadicam, when it's not footage from the film. Quite dangerous looking choreography! Tina Turner's ankles are often cut off in the frame; hopefully she was wearing soft shoes when the heels weren't in shot.

We Don't Need Another Hero might be the more famous Tina Turner song from Mad Max, but this tune (and mix) is my favourite. Now forty years and one month old!:

At times it has a real feeling & tone of the Indiana Jones movies. There's obviously pulp adventure, '30s setting, the villain, the end set piece, etc. Even the more comedic scene at the club. I like to the think the Zeppelin flew in directly from the air scene in Last Crusade (also set in 1938).
I would say these are the top four Drew Struzan posters that have followed me around since I first saw them. Each one conjured up so much emotion, excitement and curiosity, transporting me to an unknown, magical place before I'd even seen the film or knew what it was about.
Industrial Light and Magic logo, created by Drew Struzan.
Drew Struzan's poster art was so great, he could make self-pastiche as striking as his original.
There are a few really well thought out and original opticals effects in the film. The motion control shots of the spinning Glaive particularly. There's also a great zip-pan shot of a human flame thrower, combining opticals with live action.
