Sorry to yap, but: I just finished a 72k-word first draft of my #WIP adult spec fic/soft sci fi novel and I'm stoked.

Now I have to find something else to work on while I let it congeal before tackling the edits.

#MabsDrawlloweenClub, Day 14: Bones

Probably could’ve drawn more bones in this, but, hey, a skull counts!

There’s a story behind this #illustration, let’s see if with the clothing, the effects, and the…blood, if you can guess what’s going on.

Hi #PortfolioDay! I'm Alexandra, an artist, designer, cartoonist and science communicator! I am currently looking for both representation for my illustration and comic work as well as design work for comics or cover art!

Get in touch: www.alexandragallant.com
abstract illustration of consciousness - neurons floating in space, with interconnecting and branching tendrils and sparks An illustration - a bunch of overlapping veins and arteries with different translucent organs interspersed throughout the illustration, the effect is a tangled web of branching vessels with various 'organ' shapes overlaying on top, including a lung in the center of the page colorful illustration of a dozen toucans on a soft sea foamy green background
Two pages from a comic I'm working on

Page 1 is a single panel

'It can feel like plucking fruit off a tree... and seeing what's inside'
Illustration of a branch of a tree with peaches on it, and a cross section of a peach, instead of a pit, there is a brain

Page 2 is 4 panels

Panel 1: "...and sometimes" text over an illustration of a peach
Panel 2: "it's a pit" (cross section of a peach, with the pit visible)
Panel 3: "or a worm" (a fruit with a worm poking out of it)
Panel 4: "but sometimes... it's a universe" the brain/pit in the peach from the previous page is zoomed in and now has rings around it like a planet in space

I can't imagine how many hearts Drew Struzan's art touched. How many creative mind he sparked. How many art careers he kickstarted.

This is the pinnacle of Art, a thing A/I slop will never manage to reach.

Thanks for your legacy, Drew.
May your memory be a blessing and your art be a seedling.

Hi #PortfolioDay! I'm Lars and I am an artist and game dev. I have an ongoing webcomic Beast Fables, am working on a graphic novel, and make games with @twigbit.games!

Everything I work on goes on my website if you’re interested @ iskotaa.com/about! 💕
An illustration of my dad sitting at his desk on the computer. He is in a wheelchair and using a universal cuff to type. Twiggy, a little 3D computer-headed character, looks inquisitively at painting of the Twigbit logo in the style of the Mario 64 paintings. The painting is in an ornate frame. Rey, a fox wearing a tunic, is sitting in front of a box on a small stool. She looks expectant. On the box is painted “Knigt errant” and a little sign says “cheep!”. A painting of Herbert Swellsparrow for a short story about a bird who overcomes his confidence troubles and seeks adventure in unlikely places.

Antifa is a weird word to say out loud anyway, I’ve only ever shortened it to antifash because I hard other punk kids say that. But yeah, this is very much like continuing to use “pro-life,” it’s their word and their framing.
ifycomedy.com
I think we really should stop using antifa and just fully say anti-fascist and get them saying they are against anti fascism. Using antifa is giving them some distance and I genuinely think some of their base don’t even know that’s what it stands for.

peachtober day 11 - seagull✨
#peachtober25 #peachtober25seagull

this was another tough one for me since seagulls don’t really fit in the woodland critter vibe lol, but then I saw a quilt online with animals in the pattern and was inspired to make this cozy bedtime scene!

The Jasmine Throne x The Phoenix King
An #agentsguide to EMBROIDERED, a South Asian inspired adult fantasy complete at 97k words.

Title page character sketched by Jazz and colored by me.
A woman (sketched by Jazz, colored by me) holds a veena in front of a palace (public domain Canva image). The title says "Embroidered" The pitch: In an 1800's India-inspired world, a court musician plays pretty melodies at night, and by day, plots deadly revenge on the governor to reclaim her inheritance. But when a runaway princess with a devastating smile arrives in her city, the civil unrest that ensues might kill them both first Four different comp titles: The Jasmine Throne by Tasha Suri, An Ember in the Ashes by Sabaa Tahir, The Phoenix King by Aparna Verma, and The Wrath and the Dawn by Renee Ahdieh. The descriptors include: themes of colonialism and cultural erasure, heroines that grow into themselves and lean into rebellion, South Asian mythology and folklore + female rage, and revenge plots derailed by unexpected love. One section holds the opening lines: “There were traditions that existed for the sake of continuity— careful connections to our roots and ancestors— and then there were those we could do without. Amma’s daily performance, I thought, fell into the latter.”

One section has an excerpt: “I just nodded, shifting my gaze back to the idol. Her golden cheeks glistened and I was desperate to change the subject. “They say when your plea to the goddess truly moves her, she cries sea-water tears.”

“I’ve heard of that,” Roshni said, brightening. “If you catch them, I think they grant wishes?”

“Do they?”

“Myths.” The kumari shrugged. “Things for me to believe in and for you to analyze skeptically.”

I had to grin at that, leaning towards her. “Correct me if I’m wrong, but I’m the more faithful out of the pair of us.”

She rolled her eyes, tilting up her chin even as her lips stretched wide. “I do love your nath,” she admitted. Her fingers came up to press against the gold hoop at my nose.

And suddenly it was too much contact. Too little contact. Every sensible thought I’d ever had left my head.”

This is a photo of a paperback copy of The Atrocities by me (Jeremy C. Shipp). The cover features a creepy old manor house, storm clouds, and a hedge maze. The book is against a brick wall with vines growing around and over the book.

David Simon, creator of ‘The Wire’, being interviewed by Ari Shapiro (NPR)
SHAPIRO: OK, so you've spent your career creating television without Al, and I could imagine today you thinking, boy, I wish I had had that tool to solve those thorny problems...
SIMON: What?
SHAPIRO: ...Or saying...
SIMON: You imagine that?
SHAPIRO: ...Boy, if that had existed, it would have screwed me over.
SIMON: I don't think Al can remotely challenge what writers do at a fundamentally creative level.
SHAPIRO: But if you're trying to transition from scene five to scene six, and you're stuck with that transition, you could imagine plugging that portion of the script into an Al and say, give me 10 ideas for how to transition this.
SIMON: I'd rather put a gun in my mouth.
