i studied history for a long time and none of my professors ever seemed to think humans, by nature, sought to subjugate each other

The problem with capitalism is not human nature. The problem with capitalism is that, by its incentive structure, it rewards exploitation and selfishness. This means that the worst of humanity occupies the top of the hierarchy, while the rest fall down below.

humans are social animals, we're a cooperative species by nature and wealth accumulation goes directly opposite of that

its not conducive to harm your species, capitalism incentivizes it
