I don't know what the crossover fandom between The Searchers and Columbo is, but I love that Vera Miles plays both the bossy, pants-wearing Laurie Jorgensen and the unapologetically sexy Vivica Scott. Even the name Vivica Scott is 70s sexy

And she also plays Janet Leigh's sister, Lila, in Psycho

I think it's totally OK for any and all art to be weird, sad, and ugly, meaning that's not really the disqualifying factor for so-called "AI art." The disqualifying factor is that it's not made by humans. Play me some AI music that sounds like Alice Coltrane; I always want to hear Alice instead.

Guys, I have an extraordinarily innocent work crush on a veritable silver fox. Yesterday I witnessed them tumble down the stairs and take a hard fall. They're absolutely fine--maybe some wounded pride--but I fear the crush has morphed into granddaughterly "let's get you to bed" feels. 😂

This matches what I'm hearing from folks working in k-8, yeah. I don't get the argument for having these at all-- ok sure it's the digital age, but students don't need an iPad to learn how to use the Internet. Just have computer lab. It worked for millennials!

I am today years old learning that Kim Basinger is from Georgia--which has to be why her accent in Fool for Love never struck me as phony or terrible (cue Laura Dern)

How this went: the lone male in the class slut-shamed the protagonist in Fantomina. The girls left class wanting to see Belle de Jour, lol. Even in south Georgia in 2025 there is an appetite for subversive media featuring female sexual autonomy

For the record, I love this record so much. Irrationally almost!

Also, JJT's Bandcamp Friday contribution: I'm not sure I'll ever understand exactly what "blackened Hyperborean dream-crust" is, but these covers of The Amps and Morrissey sound like if the OG versions were a little heavier and.... crustier? 😀 Anyway, been jamming them for weeks. You should listen.

It's so nice to see the story of the deep faculty cuts at St. Norbert framed by a key Catholic alumni and a former colleague who was denied tenure and promotion along with me and others in May 2024. Pretty much every other story has had SNC's president's PR monkeys on the case.

Lately I've been wanting a "the institution will never love you back" bumper sticker (🫡 you, @tressiemcphd.bsky.social), but I figure it's a bad idea since I, perennially untenured, regularly park next to the dean in the faculty lot. But I repeat the mantra to myself at least twice a week.
👇The best advice for teaching in today's neo-liberal, continually budget-slashed institution of higher ed: you can't be your best teaching self, so you've got to accept that or drive yourself mad.

Higher ed has become part of the 'enshittification' cycle, and we must accept that... or go mad.
I think that is right. But, I guess also: you can do worse than your (theoretical/historical/personal) best teaching and still be doing good (enough) teaching. Above all, you can't do the work of more than one person and also do it amazingly.
