SPLC is a smear machine, gotten rich tax free from fundraising off of the zombie of the KKK. Their last shred of credibility went up the chimney when they listed Dr. Ben Carson as an extremist. Zero credibility anymore; I stop reading any article once they invoke SPLC.

The linguist George Lakoff once said that people vote their identities, not their interests. He meant it as a zinger against Republicans who were voting for Arnold Schwarzenegger in California's governor's race at the time. But it really applies across the board.

Same thing happened in the Nineties. Usenet once flourished with scientific discussion, but trolls and cranks drove the scientists away. I'm mildly perplexed at why scientists bother with social media at all; email listservs seem better suited.
