A very interesting video explaining how the US (and in my opinion much of the world, including Canada) isn't nessecarrily going fascist, it's inverted totalitarianism...and that's worse.

Thanks for the great coverage on our housing policy, @jamimakan.bsky.social / BIV! Renters in B.C. have the worst deal in Canada, with 1 in 6 spending over half their income on rent. We need to crack down on greedy landlords with vacancy control and massively scale non-market housing. #bcpoli

Emancipate yourselves from the authoritarian idea that you cannot criticize the Democrats because the Republicans exist

Question…you’d rather support the racist, sexist, misogynistic, bigoted, anti-science, anti-freedom white supremacy GOP? Make it make sense…

Yes, it would really help. The divide between the rich and the poor is the cancer that's eating all western societies.

Newfoundland and Labrador’s election shows the problem again. A party can win a majority of seats without majority support.

Proportional representation would make every vote count equally and ensure real majority rule.
Two pie charts compare votes and seats in Newfoundland and Labrador’s election. The left chart shows the popular vote: PCs 44.5%, Liberals 43.7%, NDP 8.4%, Independents 3.9%. The right chart shows seat share: PCs 52.5%, Liberals 37.5%, NDP 5%, Independents 5%. The graphic highlights how first past the post gave the PCs a majority of seats despite not having majority voter support, with a message calling for proportional representation.

Are you mad at the US? Well you are now a Chinese agent. The US is merely responding to the higher threat of global war. Something it had no hand in contributing towards. Two news outlets in Canada published an author who essentially said this unironically, let's delve into the jingoism. #cdnnews

FYI for BC residents, if you want a COVID booster/flu shot, I was able to search in my emails for a previous "Book your next vaccine appointment" from a previous year and click on the link and it just let me schedule my covid vaccine.

Considering how pathetic the standards and the vetting are for ICE agents now I would assume the cartels have already infiltrated ICE and are now on payroll.

At some point people can no longer bring themselves to keep rewarding failure. People are understandably unhappy. I wish they had the understanding to recognize the source of their unhappiness but no one has so far even presented a critique of capitalism let alone an alternative.

When our electoral system and
media only over presents two options this is inevitable.
Things aren't good so you can't realistically expect people to vote for the status quo.
The same thing will almost certainly happen federally. Trump winning was the only thing that saved the Libs last time.

Thank you to Tom Howell and CBC Ideas for having me on to talk through the contradiction at the heart of new Canadian pipeline projects.

Believing we can escape the consequences of expanding fossil fuels doesn’t make a 2 degree future less deadly!

Carney is already doing all that - austerity, taxcuts for the wealthy and the border overreach bill (the only thing he won't get is the bail reform or three strikes laws) so Poilievre will be able to claim victory for his supporters and vote for the budget or abstain. His choice.

It looks like the Liberals will probably go to the Cons for support again because I can't see them agreeing to boost funds for healthcare, retirees, or housing when they have stated it will be an austerity budget and the NDP have also said they won't support an austerity budget.
