Our labs study innate immune regulation during bacterial infection. We focus on interplay between mitochondria and Mycobacterium tuberculosis (Robbie Watson) and post-transcriptional control of macrophage activation (Kristin Patrick). Views are our own.

Right?!?! SO RUDE! We'll have to spell out "GO DORES" with our pipettes or something in response.

Anyone know if IAR shuts down if the government shuts down?

According to news reports, NIH is on track to award nearly all of its FY25 budget. Program officers—working long hours despite staff losses—made it possible. Take a moment to thank your PO for their dedication.

A huge shoutout to all the dedicated grants management specialists at the NIH who are working around the clock to push grants out before the Sep 30 deadline. And also to the POs responding to frantic emails.
Not an easy job under the best of circumstances and right now it's the pits.
Thank you!

Not necessarily a substitute, but I really enjoyed the pumpkin munchkins we got for lab meeting last week.

So depressing and so unsurprising.

Not trying to argue that the situation isn't dire, but for accuracy sake, this is under-reporting. I had a type 2 award on 8/11 from NIGMS that's not on Reporter yet.

Preprint on tandem split-GFP influenza viruses is now up! We strung 7 copies of GFP11 together to make a bright virus with minimal fitness defects. Fluorescence requires GFP1-10 from cells, so we made a few that are relevant for flu. See this fluorescent love story: www.biorxiv.org/cgi/content/...

A P/W lab student who had his F31-DIV terminated just got a very fundable score on the (same) F31 he submitted again as a new application in April.

Its almost as if his science and aptitude had nothing to do with "DEI" 🤔

Hope this inspires others with unfairly terminated awards to try again!

Yay!!! But also explain this to me—GA wasn’t part of the lawsuit, right? Everyone keeps saying it’s restricted to states that sued, but NIH actions are maybe inconsistent with that (I hope?)

The new open access policy of NIH will take effect next week (July 1st). All NIH funded research 🔬🧪🧬accepted after July 1st must be open access upon publication. Worried about fees? 💸 Check out how IAI stacks up against other journals—you might be surprised. #OpenAccess #SciComm #Microbiology
