Flaky (pie crusts only) and sturdy (in pie crusts and in life)
Finally got some very good news related a work thing that is long overdue and I can’t say anything more than that but I will say I burned the entirety of two whole candles (the big kind) over the last several days while we waited to see if the right thing would finally happen.

I’m now realizing that week off my office will be closed at the end of the year that sounded glorious just a few weeks ago now sounds like it will be not nearly long enough and over in the blink of an eye.

As both a teacher and a parent, I see every day how challenging it can be for families to figure out how to give their children real freedom in the world. Again and again, the #BikeBus shows me that it is one of the best tools we have for scaffolding independence.

the #BikeBus shows how safety in numbers gives kids the chance to ride, learn, and build confidence on streets that would not feel safe alone. Protected bike lanes, diverters, and street designs that separate children from cars are what make this joy possible every day, not just on Bike Bus days.

Meeting some friends who are in town for dinner tonight.

Me at 7 am: I’ll get started on cookie season and just make one or two batches to bring them some cookie gift bags. Light touch.

Met at 4:30 pm: Oops, I did it again. I made 5 different types of cookies.

My 8 yo wanted to be friends on Apple Watch and since I allowed this she mostly just roasts my workouts. Like ok kid maybe my bike pace wasn’t great but for the record you were just chilling in the cargo seat, enjoying a snack and the free ride ok.

Shout out to private school preschoolers hanging out the windows of their bus shouting “6-7” as a holiday greeting in the parade
December 6, 2025 at 4:47 PM
I still think this parade needs an ALX Skeets delegation. Riding bikes, eating pizza, wearing @kaylahornbrook.bsky.social merch, tossing out hot takes.

If I could give out a peace prize it would be to whoever ends the nonstop proliferation of a different app for every kid sport and team. I don’t want more apps.

this is nice that old town is finally going to catch up to the weather end where we have had churros available with our beer for a while now.

The best part is seeing what happens when you give children a joyful way to start their day. They show up energized, confident, and connected. This is what happens when streets feel welcoming and movement is part of the morning routine. #BikeBus

Another one for the “a bike didn’t do that“ file. The file is getting thick.

Made the mistake of showing my kid this and now she won’t stop asking for it.

A beautiful collection of essays from a writer more people need to read. I laughed, cried, and nodded along to so many moments that were so much like my own.

First pie out is the orphan mini pumpkin pie to use the excess filling and dough I had. Fairly pleased with the visible layers of flake in the crust, though a smidge too much filling so it overtook one side of the crust slightly and also sank a touch in the middle.

It’s that time of year when I grind cloves for baking projects and it smells like high school in the 90s.

The most Midwestern reply ever.
What time do you get in?
Officially moving to Chicago tomorrow. I assume JB Pritzker will be waiting for me at the airport

Let’s call it what it is: Coalition To Waste Alexandrians‘ Tax $$ because beyond soliciting donations that could go to actually helping people they also want to waste city funds defending their 🗑️ lawsuits of petty grievances.

Save it for Festivus and save us all some $$.
November 25, 2025 at 1:00 PM
Hey Alexandrians, you and/or your neighbors are struggling with expensive groceries, rent, paying back shutdown payday loans, etc etc but it’s really these litigious cranks who refuse to admit they‘re wrong that need your money so choose your holiday season giving wisely I guess. 🙄🙄🙄🙄

I love this so much. Get these west end kids some bikes and now let’s get these west end kids some non-car lanes and paths on the west end so they can bike places and do stuff.

TLDR; BAR insists on expensive, unnecessary s*** that will take even more tax dollars out of the wallets of myself and every other resident, at a time when this city is trying to keep teachers paid and a lot of the city is trying to keep food on the table.

Tone deaf.
Out of touch.
Outrageous.
The Alexandria Board of Architectural Review unanimously approved the City Hall renovation project Wednesday night, with extensive design requirements that the city had explicitly opposed, including mandatory chimneys and arched entrances.
