The "fawn" response will have us running around trying to fix problems we didn't create, & couldn't fix even if we wanted to-- but recovery is going to ask us to let some peoples' problems be THEIR problems, not ours. Which is harder than it sounds, for formerly parentified kids.

tonight while recording a guest spot on a podcast i experienced an unacceptable level of disrespect from one of the hosts. so i decided to do what felt right for me and i left. i didn’t need to stick around to show i’m “tough” or “thick skinned.” i reminded myself that no one is owed my time.

It's so hard to really receive this message at age 32
The fact that life has been sh*t so far has zero to do w/ what life will be like going forward. I know that's hard to wrap your head around, but it's true. Do not let your bullies & abusers convince you you have nothing left to give or receive. Your real life hasn't even started.
