I think this term fell out of favour maybe '90s, possibly for all of NZ, but was delighted to see an old sign north outskirts of Ōtautahi cautioning of judder bars on a side road

As well as Retrolens, which I find a great resource for work, for Canterbury there is also this resource - some from the 1920s

Detail in many decades is fantastic - in '80s and '90s not so much
