Intro post:
My day job is helping people and companies make the best use of the internet. I create and support theatre, spend a lot of time in cinemas, love Terry Pratchett (GNU), and have a tendency to waffle.

I had 15 minutes of fame back on the bird site:

Social media v the News of The World
Twitter users have mounted an extremely effective campaign to dissuade advertisers from using the News of the World.

I see the American left has decided on yet another of their pernicious purity tests to keep ordinary ex Blackwater military security contractors out of politics. This time it's (checks biro on hand) not having nazi tattoos.

"What treasure did your adventure yield?" villagers would ask on her return.

"None," she would laugh, "except memories, scars, and a favour owed me by a wolf!"

Or a dragon, toad, sow, or gorgon.

"When will you call in all the favours owed you?"

"Only when I must," she said.

She never had to.

There was a 'womp' sound from the yard. I looked out the window.

Where the large pile of leaves had been, a dragon sat.

"Oi!" I called.

"The hoard was unguarded," the dragon said. "I claim it."

Every damn year. It'll leave once the leaves lose their golden hue. Meanwhile, I can't order takeaway.
Fellow white people, when someone of a different ethnicity tells us politely that on of our number has been disrespectful to their culture. The correct response isn't to tell them they are wrong.
That wasn't even the really weird bit, she said she worked for Yahoo and they were ramping up their in-house journalism team again.
Something weird happened yesterday.
Somebody approximately a decade younger than me said I couldn't possibly have some of my internet knowledge first hand as they were obviously older than I was.

this particular rake wasn’t even in the path of the government until they decided to march straight towards it for some reason

right wing bigots have admitted

- the “trans women in bathrooms” issue

- the “trans women in sports” issue and

- the “trans kids getting surgery” issue

were all MADE UP TO TAKE OUR RIGHTS AWAY

are you paying attention?
Halloween has only caught on recently in the UK, we used to spend all our energy on Guy Fawkes night, burning catholics in effigy and blowing stuff up.
But now the weird holiday is a popular
Although I might just pop out for some chips
It is all a bit meh out, I am definitely unlikely to go anywhere without purpose
Why is my brain so insistently suggesting I should be getting on outdoor clothes and leaving the house?
I can't see anything in my diary or remember what on earth I might be supposed to be doing?

There will genuinely be conversations today in companies where management will ask "hang on, when you say the cloud is someone else's computer, you mean that someone is in America" several of these companies will have text on their websites about data never leaving [territory that isn't the US]
The issues shockingly appears to be at least in part a DNS problem. DNS stands for Don't Name Stuff, because it always causes trouble.
Somewhere on a MSM live blog there has been a post earnestly suggesting this is part of the Louvre heist getaway plan by someone desperate for the Italian Job (1969) to happen somewhere.
Nobody is quite sure about the name and number, where as for the California site everyone is taught how the US-WEST was 1.
A lot of the switches and dials that control stuff in all the other regions are here, so for example Amazon can't turn the lights on and off in any of their datacentres worldwide during the outage.
Some points about the AWS outage for those that don't work in the field.
US-EAST-1 issues tend to cause more outages for a number of reasons.
It is the default for a lot of things and as you know, nobody changes the default unless they know what they are doing
McDonald's unveils “World Heist Menu” with burgers from Canada & Australia, McNuggets & drinks from Japan, fries from Poland and jewellery fresh from France.
Going to hide behind that to avoid dealing with the substance of why I thought you might be extrapolating from experience elsewhere which is quite how wrong you are historically?
Not really.
I am not saying that I want bad things to happen to you based on it.
I am not wanting people to paint symbols on you.
You are either a bot, not British or both.
