Looking forward to hearing about the rest of your game and the physical effects on your players.

What brilliant advice! Many thanks @ghostlightloot.bsky.social . We’re playing on Roll 20, which is unusual enough for me, but I have found it very good for using handouts and the like in the past. So I’ll try to use those as much as possible.

Yep, it’s a one-shot called the Derelict from a book called Petersen’s Abominations. Any tips on building tension in such a short format?

I’m running my first ever Call of Cthulhu game next week. Cant wait. Hoping I get my players farting too!

The bad habits that are listed here are fewer in number but oh so much greater in the size and capitalisation of their headings

It’s my brother’s second anniversary tomorrow. He was an amazing guy, multi-talented, kind and humble. I’m sharing today the post I wrote about what an inspiration he has been to me. I wrote it this time last year.

Still Inspiring
Second Anniversary My family and I are once again celebrating the life of my brother, Lorcan this weekend. Tomorrow it will be two years since his untimely passing. It’s still very near and raw. I …

DCC – Hole in the Sky Review
There’s a pumpkin-headed but polite creature stalking the prison who will, every once in a while, grab one of the PCs and pop them in his gob

In a couple days, it'll be one year of joining Rascal. I'm grateful that I get to do this job. Which is part of why I work so hard at it. Because it's a tough job when I do it well because I'm trying to tell the stories of real people and I don't want to mess that up.

Thanks for reading, folks.

Shadowrun is a unique phenomenon in the world of games. It's not the biggest game, but almost everyone’s heard of it — though what they’ve heard might not be complimentary. What's the story there? Why does it have the reputation it does?
Why do people love to hate Shadowrun?

Thanks! I actually wondered about that as I was writing the post. Went and checked the Master of Ceremonies chapter of Apocalypse World and discovered that there’s a lot of overlap but there’s enough that’s Blades-specific in BitD that it deserves to be dealt with separately too.

INSULINDIAN PHASMID - I am at the end of a narrow funnel. Weightless. So light it only feels like *something* to be me. In truth -- perhaps I'm nothing? I certainly do not have a soul. And if I did, it would never ache.

New post on the dice pool dot com. Today I’m reviewing the Lost City adventure from Quests from the Infinite Staircase for the Dragon game. It’s a remake of an adventure from 1982 by Tom Moldvay #dnd #thelostcity #rpg #ttrpg #review

The Lost City Review
Disclaimer: I have only read this adventure. It’s unusual enough for me to review something that I haven’t actually played but I thought it was worth doing anyway.

GM Tip: Start sessions by recapping the last one and asking players about their goals. This aligns expectations and keeps everyone focused on what excites them most in the game.

I have been promised a rapture every few years of my adult life. And each and every time the day passes and we’re still stuck with these assholes.

When life closes a door, it opens a window. And if the fall is too steep, use the fire exit. Run to the roof -- you always have that airship on the dock. The most important thing is to keep moving. Keep dreaming.

New post on the dice pool dot com! Blades in the Dark by @johnharper.bsky.social is full of great advice for the beginner and veteran GM alike. In preparation for my Blades campaign I’m taking a look at the section on Starting the Game. #rpg #ttrpg #bladesinthedark

Beginnings in the Dark
I want to start by acknowledging that I think this entire section is fantastic. It’s full of gold. The advice presented here is the kind of thing I would love to see in every game.
