This is also how you sometimes pick up something that is truly awful and that is part of it too. You can't develop a critical sense if you only watch/read/play stuff that's wildly acclaimed
The death of browsing is part of the reason art is the way it is now. Our opinions are largely fed to us by algorithms. Spending a spare 15 minutes wandering around a bookstore or comic shop or video rental place was how you found stuff you wouldn't ordinarily pick up and thereby expanded your taste
Bookselling is like the most "people go to the store and buy what looks cool to them without a particular agenda" type business left, and your purchases have a huge influence on what is ordered, what is displayed, and what is recommended.

This is why I'm always mad at videogame collections leaving out the bad spin offs and versions. Playing shitty games is part of 1) getting to know a series 2) being a fan of anything 3) enjoying a medium. They want you to think playing the ones that got +80 on Metacritic is the same and it isn't

Disgaea DS is a godawful port that runs at 3 fps that I picked up because I liked the design of the girls in cover. I would have never played it on PS2. It changed my way of thinking about RPGs and shaped me as a videogame critic more than, say, Ocarina of Time

Los más melancólicos, bonitos, extraños, originales y mejor diseñados pero son los "peores" porque no te obligan a dar setecientas volteretas con la chorra fuera.
Lleva un tiempo llamándome la atención el criterio bajo el que se valora si un jefe final es bueno o no y cómo en los Souls se suele reducir a si es un duelo mecánicamente complejo pero "justo".
El consenso en muchos círculos parece ser que los jefes de Demon's Souls son "malos" y me pone triste.
