"Don't explain who you are.
You can wear a mystery like a sheriff's star.
Don't explain who you are.
Why apologise for an open heart?"

- Kathryn Williams "Sea of Shadows"

(an expected name-check for MF Doom, too)

Made a last minute decision to see Toria Wooff at The Old Toll on Tuesday. Just her and an acoustic guitar and she was pretty incredible. Can't stop thinking about her set. It was just so moving. I can't get over the clarity of her voice...

+1 on the endorsement for Brenda's fanzine and art! 😎
Big fan of fanzines, Brenda Sweeney’s art (see orange/black abstract brutalism in background) and her taste for indiepop and 60s nooks and crannies - so Here’s Where You Belong, is entirely correct. You? brensweeney.bigcartel.com

There's a biography of Chris Knox out this week - the author Craig Robertson contacted me a few years ago, as back in 1995 when I was at Ak Uni, I made a half hour documentary on Chris and he wanted to see it.
Anyway, I dug out the digital file and it's now online, enjoy! youtu.be/VQjvic02S8M?...

Gotta say...I'm surprised that there are still tickets left for Tindersticks co-founder/Clay Pipe Music artist David Boulter's December show at the utterly unique Sharmanka:

"The seaside theme is there in my music. All that world means a lot to landlocked Sheffield – it’s all a bit seedy, but a creative outlet"

Sahar Ghadirian speaks to James Leesley, aka Studio Electrophonique, ahead of his debut album release this Friday ⬇️

#Sheffield #StudioElectrophonique
Studio Electrophonique - “There’s this sensitive, emotional side that’s very Sheffield – but it has to be balanced with a joke”
From Handsworth to Paris, Studio Electrophonique’s debut album chronicles a journey of coincidences as steeped in magic as the songs themselves.

Aw, it's really touching. I hope you love it as much as I do! Just found out they're supporting The Divine Comedy at Glasgow's Royal Concert Hall in October. Bet it's sold out...
From the artwork I was expecting this to be a Polytechnic Youth-style modern kosmische synth record but it's much more poignant than that. There's something about the forlorn wee ba-ba-ba's that kinda break my heart.

One of my fave Scottish 12"s of recent years is "Le Blank" by Quad90. They're launching their debut lp at The Glad Cafe in Glasgow in Friday. Should get the feet moving 😋 youtu.be/Ql-EbZrEY-Q?...

🤣 I hear ya! It's very youthful and UP! I think I read somewhere that one of them is the daughter of Seiji from the much less chirpy Guitar Wolf 😉
Cheerful Japanese pop punk gang The Let's Go's are at Stereo in Glasgow next Saturday. Should be fun! youtu.be/ntepr3wWgcM?...

Turns out that Jon McKiel played Glasgow a fortnight ago. Bah! Next time...
Had a chat with the sound person after they played this beautiful song by a (new to me) Canadian artist called Jon McKiel. It's like some heavenly meeting of a Bob Dylan backing track on a loop with Sam Burton or Chris Cohen on vocals 😄

Pretty solid tune selection between bands at this Acopia gig: Felt, Bill Callahan, Chris Cohen etc. 😎
