Novel bone marrow transplant can cure sickle cell disease, according to results of a new trial. Of 42 people with severe sickle cell disease who had the procedure during the trial, 95% were alive two years after the transplant, and 88% are considered cured.

Transplanting insulin-producing cells along with engineered blood-vessel-forming cells has successfully reversed type 1 diabetes, according to a new preclinical study in mice. With further testing, the novel approach could one day cure the as-yet incurable condition.
