Suppose Bluesky introductions are probably worth doing

I’m James and I work with the National Trust for Scotland in two museums covering history and palaeontology 🦖

I spend my free time dabbling in fossils and being deeply engrossed in Science fiction 👽

Just listened to the 'eels' episode of @robinince.bsky.social's Infinite Monkey Cage, and I have to say that if I'd seen all this series' episode titles in advance, I would NOT have predicted that would end up being the most fascinating episode so far 🤯

Brian Cox and Robin Ince dive into the slippery science of the elusive eel.

This is without question the most realistic cgi creature I have ever seen - absolute stellar job the animators on Prehistoric Planet Ice Age did, I was blown away by this Gigantopithecus 🦧

The segment itself was also absolutely heartbreaking on top of that…

I’ve just spent an hour watching Saturn’s rings for the first time thanks to a new telescope lens - I’m speechless! 🪐

Admittedly it’s a fuzzy line, but given Saturn is 740 million miles away and the ring is about a metre deep that’s not bad! 🔭

Even saw some of its moons for the first time too! 🌒

Nature isn’t a “blocker” – it makes our lives better.

Our coast, countryside, heritage and wildlife underpin our food, water and health and put millions of pounds into the economy. The Government must not weaken the laws that protect them.

Amazing news to start the week! 🎉 German travel giant DERTOUR will no longer sell tickets to dolphinariums or attractions keeping whales & dolphins in captivity. After years of campaigning, this is a major win for whales & dolphins. Your turn, TUI. It's time to do the right thing.

I had the pleasure of meeting Dugie in 2022 during a trip to Skye. He was so humble and always made time to speak to everyone.

A true loss to palaeontology
We've lost Dugie Ross, truly one of the best people I have ever known.

He reported the first Scottish dinosaurs, made the Isle of Skye into Scotland's Dinosaur Island, welcomed so many of us onto his island, into his home and family.

Guess who’s got Jurassic World evolution 3…? 👀

Although I miss having a dedicated database and I’m still having trouble with modular building, I’m having a blast! 🦖
Even managed to make my own attraction - “Cliff Face Viewpoint”

Best part of Jurassic World Rebirth without a doubt is the Dunkleosteus cameo 🐟

Finally we have Placoderm representation and I can link Hugh Miller museum’s fossils with the Jurassic franchise! 🙌
