Did people really memorize phone numbers before cell phones, or is that just a movie thing?

I was watching some old shows from the 90s and noticed people would just dial numbers from memory - like they'd call their friends or family without looking anything up.
Made me wonder if that was actually normal back then? Did people genuinely have all their important numbers memorized, or did most folks keep a little address book or written list nearby?

The only time I've seen someone do that to her was in Turkey and it was a group of street entertainers dressed as clowns which was frankly terrifying.

I'm not judging all Turkish people by a group of clowns though.

My partner is black, white people in general seem to lose all sense of reality about black people's hair.

There are millions of millennium bugs just waiting to jump back up as a lot of the time they just did something like if year > 50 it's 19xx else it's 20xx.

But everyone chose a random year to cut it off as 'surely no one will be using this is 20xx'

They are calling so many things AI that are unrelated.

Mine for example works out how heavy the stuff is and then works out how long it should wash / dry it for.

Not exactly chatgpt.

At one point I regularly had to drive down Camden High Street at midnight on Saturday.

One of the most stressful things I've done.

I had an Alfa Romeo at the time and I remember one drunk Italian guy running in front of me and kissing the bonnet badge 😬
