I’ve been reflecting on Indigenous Peoples Day, but sweet Jeebus, what the hell is this? Indigenous Peoples Day is always sort of contextually shameful to me: I know more about Father Junipero Serra than I do about the peoples that he “converted" at the Spaniards gunpoint. Growing up in California, we had at least a year in grade school where we learned the (very) white-washed history of California, probably more than we ever learned about US history.
