Not to brag but we just won our union election with the most YES votes cast in a single union election this year 💅💪

7,000+ UC staff now have a union and are heading to the bargaining table with over 40k other UC research workers.
First time voting to authorize a strike should management continue their unlawful bullshit and I couldn't feel more fuckin ALIVE

Public sector employees are under "right to work" laws because of Janus vs AFSCMEa and we are unionizing at a much faster rate than private workers. And no strike articles do not supercede federal/state laws guaranteeing workers rights to strike if their employer is committing unfair labor practices
Right to work laws block people from striking, including unions. Many unions also have “no strike” clauses in their contracts. Lastly, it is illegal on a federal level for unions to strike for non-work related reasons. Meaning they can’t strike because they don’t like what the government is doing.

In the Bay Area, local prosecutors have charged student protesters who participated in pro-Palestine demonstrations with felony-level charges that critics are warning are setting a dangerous template for law enforcement responses.

Lmao
Poverty is a serious issue that we care deeply about. But billionaires aren't responsible for it. The DRC has no billionaires, yet 75% of its population lives in extreme poverty.
We applaud billionaires like Bill Gates and Warren Buffet who have saved millions of lives with their charity.

I cleared this brain last year with the @lifecanvastech.bsky.social SmartBatch and imaged with their SmartSPIM and I am pretty proud of it. As a computational guy, I was low key shocked that it came out as well as it did on the first try bc I forgot how to pipette

Unanimously appointed by every Democrat in the Senate
Marco Rubio: "The oil proceeds are being deposited into an account that ultimately will become a US Treasury blocked account here in the US. We will say 'this is what this money can be spent on.' They will submit to us a budget request -- 'we want to use the money on these things.'"

The engagement farming accounts posting flyers for a “national nurse’s strike” with no organization or any contacts named, let alone a strike fund or list of demands, are trying to hurt nurses to build a Bluesky brand.

I am watching what is happening in Minneapolis on Ali Velshi and one of the ICE officers (off camera) literally says, “It’s like Call of Duty. Pretty cool huh?” as they shoot whatever it is they are shooting. Agents walking around, guns unholstered for no reason. This is insanity

This must be weird news to see if you’re one of the literally hundreds or even thousands of university administrators who preemptively censored faculty, scrubbed websites, changed the names of centers, etc.

Turns out it requires a fuckload of union-backed, coalition-built, boots-on-the-ground organizing to accomplish rather than a half-assed slogan on the internet (like many folks have mentioned for *years* whenever this exact thing came up)
The prevailing consensus over the last year was that anyone calling for a general strike was ridiculous and ignorant and it would never work here, and maybe that’s true nationally, I dunno, but I bet those people wouldn’t have seen tomorrow in MN coming either
National media should really be covering the fact thay every major school, museum, and arts institution in the Twin Cities, and hundreds of local businesses are closed tomorrow to protest federal occupation.

Nothing like this at this scale has happened anywhere in America anytime in living memory.

Wrapped up 3 days of bargaining. Got 4 TAs including the first grievable articles on protections from discrimination and abuse in the workplace in any staff contract at the UC. Grateful to be part of a truly worker led union 🙏
Headed to the @uawregion6.bsky.social office for 3 days of bargaining, which also happens to be the number of ULP charges we just filed 😜

Rest in power to Keith Porter who was murdered by an ICE agent in Los Angeles.

It’s terrible that his name is just now being circulated, but now that it is, continue to say his name.
Advocates want legal action after man shot and killed by off-duty ICE agent in Northridge
Advocates argue that the off-duty ICE agent wasn't trained for the situation and should have called police and waited for them to arrive.
