Erien is pretty much their polar opposite; with a love for heavy blades and fire magic, she’ll charge into the fray and make sure all eyes are on her. Combat is a thrill, and she loves making a show of it. While more than smart enough to plan ahead, thinking on the fly is simply more fun.

Trained first as thieves, a fight with Q’linn or Nozari is all about feint and misdirection. Flash bombs and smoke, setting traps, whatever’s around them being as much a weapon as any gun, knife or gadget. But just as often, Q’linn will have a well-placed diversion to avoid a fight entirely.

For a partner I’d go with Meowth - they’d be the most reminiscent of Q’linn’s sister Nozari, his first partner in crime.

Q’linn embodies everything I love about steampunk/early industrial aesthetics mixing with fantasy, artificers as an archetype and the idea of tackling any problem with grit, creativity and human ingenuity.

Q’linn is one of four active WoLs, Erien is a “B-team Scion” (a la Hoary Boulder, Couktenet etc.) who dips in and out of MSQ, and Nozari is Q’linn’s adoptive sister who has a mostly secondary role up until Dawntrail.

I honestly spent a long time ironing out what Q’linn’s personality was outside of “craftsman,” and while I have a much better image now I do still need to make an effort to flesh him out in aspects unrelated to his jobs.

Post-EW where the WoL is itching to go out on another adventure. Q’linn is very happily retired at that point, getting dragged into events there and in DT by circumstance.

Not to say there’s no room for that spark to re-ignite later on…

For Erien, while training as a Red Mage she's learned to manipulate all six elements to a degree but has the best affinity for fire. In addition to all the flame she summons appearing purple, she can release it in bursts to "jet" around the place - fast dashes, but not full-on flight.

Going through MSQ I've HCed a ton of gadgets Q'linn's been building on top of MCH gear: flash powder bombs, a grappling hook, low-gravity boots for more agility.

One of my favourites is the shards of his anima's soulstone he puts in most of his machina and vehicles to let them freely "body hop."

I'm still trying to nail down a good voice claim for Q'linn, but even before I ported her to FFXIV I've had Sully from Fire Emblem (Bennett Abara) as the canon voice for Erien in my mind.

Q’linn is generally an optimistic person, which is probably helped by his standards being quite low - all his relationships before his current wife were fleeting, and growing up homeless he’s used to making the best out of very little. Some of those habits are hard to break even now.

robotic appendages. With Ryne’s aid, the man inside was able to focus the Light into the Lightwarden’s left eye for it to be cut out and turn him back - an injury that persisted, along with shadow-blindness in the right. The skin of the now empty socket is like porcelain, flecked with gold.

Q’linn’s hair and skin turned gradually more pale with each Lightwarden absorbed, as well as progressive shadow-blindness robbing his ability to see in the dark. It came to a head at Mt. Gulg, where he did become a Lightwarden himself; Thelema, a tower of white and gold covered in (cont.)
