Our cake deserves its own post. It was so special. I just gave the idea of a mossy log and eclipse and let the baker run with it. So glad she took the creative freedom to this beautiful extent.

I almost forgot! We also exchanged swords. Here are some details:

Practicing the altar decoration in a tiny space. The arch has runes on it depicting a spell: “I see you, you see me” on one side, “I love you, you love me” on the other. There’s a small table in front with our hand fasting cord, candles, and other bits and bobs to make it more magical. I made an eclipse style hanging decoration with metal circles, zip ties and spray paint.

I made myself a custom broom with a thrifted bamboo broom, dried lavender and chamomile, dried moss, dried mushrooms, and some themed charms. We jumped over it during the ceremony.

His sword is a short Viking style sword with runes carved into it.

Theme wise I mentioned sun and moon and choosing the eclipse for our date, but we only stuck to it loosely. We told our family to just dress like they were going to go to ren faire. That worked out with mine being strange and hobbity and his dressing in red and black royal looks.

After exchanging vows and all the legal bits, we feasted and had a fire! That’s it. Kept it really simple.

We had our parents and two friends each come to witness. Our officiant was this amazing woman Crystal Rose. It was important to us to have someone 2SLGBTQIA+ friendly and/or Pagan and we lucked out in that she was both. (majikmama.ca)

Since we planned to elope, we needed a bit of an unconventional venue. After trials and tribulations we ended up finding an AirBnB that was perfect just outside of town. There was even a fairy garden! I was planning on my side of the family being very fae inspired so it was really serendipitous.

I proposed to my husband at midnight on their birthday and we ended up getting married the following year. We chose a solar eclipse as the day as we had a sun and moon theme in mind.

Showing off the engagement rings! They are silver bands with elder futhark runes wrapping around the whole diameter. I ended up with two just because I wasn’t sure what size to get 😅

The two of us celebrated the next day/ birthday at a Viking themed restaurant

Eventually I got my own engagement ring! It’s triple moon themed with moonstone and twisting branches

This weekend was especially stressful in some ways but I cooked a lot! And I baked a lot. And I hung out with my family and the cats napped on the couch with me while I crocheted. I had wine and nice tea and sweets. It was nice.
