That's why EM was so upset by getting flamed on Twitter that he couldn't just log off like he should have. He got so used to everyone treating everything he did as genius that he actually began to think of himself as an oracle(!) and so ended up engaging in increasingly grandiose, criminal activity

The reason billionaires are so weird is because they have staff who interact with the world on behalf of the billionaire (since they're afraid to). This includes their social interactions, so they're are not used to talking to anyone that they don't pay to defer to them.
