PhD 4: How sustainable is sustainable housing? 

This project will explore the technical and regulatory factors that shape the long-term sustainability of housing, considering affordability, energy efficiency, durability, materials, water conservation, health and wellbeing, and overall environmental impact. 

Working across disciplines including engineering, geography, sustainability science, and law, ASHA will generate insights that inform sustainable housing policy and practice. This PhD project will: 

- Analyse the lifecycle and environmental impact of housing materials 
- Assess the effectiveness of regulatory frameworks 
- Investigate the role of housing in occupant health and wellbeing 
- Develop actionable recommendations for policymakers, urban planners, and architects 

Applicants should submit a cover letter and CV (including two referees) to Prof Sarah McCormack at mccorms1@tcd.ie by 15 September 2025.
