That did the trick, thanks!
I'm hoping so bad that the "ballroom" is built so poorly and shoddily that it has to be torn down. That, to me, would be a fantastic not-legacy to leave behind.
It gives off such insanely strong "first-time flipper in way over their heads without having a clue" vibes
This has such a vibe of a badly-planned first-time flip job where the person's getting in way over their head. Like holy fuck, what is this visual? You don't just DEMO an important building like this. You deconstruct it!
The Trump Regime, if evaluated based on that taboo (which, to be clear, really only matters to monied & connected people in the end), would score such a low mark as to be run out of town. And that's exactly what we need to make sure we do. Run them out. Eject every filthy fascist from gov't.
This was seen as a taboo, esp among (privileged) natives with long family histories in the state/city. Buying a (truly) architecturally unique building is seen as taking on stewardship/custodianship of that building and if it leaves your possession worse than you found it, you should feel shame.
Growing up in New Orleans, you'd occasionally see people buying a big old house and then literally going at the "renovation" with a single piece of rented equipment. The renovation inevitably stalled constantly due to lack of funds and the tropical weather would get to the house's guts, forcing demo
Scoop: Trump has started demolishing the White House's East Wing facade to build his ballroom. The president had claimed construction of the $250 million building wouldn’t ‘interfere’ with the existing White House structure. /W @ddiamond.bsky.social wapo.st/4hqBNiU

"Hey, our ideas are up here"
It's almost comically difficult to imagine assembling a dumber collection of idiots, clowns, and doofuses to staff this regime with than the ones currently falling on their faces in their rush to suck Trump's shriveled dick and kiss his flat ass.
EXCLUSIVE: One Saturday afternoon in October, my phone lit up with a notification.

I glanced down at the message.

“Anna, Lindsey Halligan here,” it began.

So began my text exchange with the woman who is prosecuting the president's perceived political enemies.

i hate that we can't even read gift articles apparently without creating an account
I'm curious whether there's any correlation between the tenacity/success of NIMBY opposition to these projects and the completeness of the urban tree canopy in a given street or neighborhood? Like, if you have street trees as tall as the building, is opposition lower/less successful?
I'm not a NY'er and I don't have skin in this game but as an urbanist/planner i HAVE read about this issue and I'm hella impressed that Zohran's brought it up prominently like this!
Overstaying its welcome. Making New Yorkers’ days grimmer. Something we should relegate to the past.

No, we're not talking about Andrew Cuomo. We're talking about scaffolding.

Today we released our plan to take it down more quickly.

In Salem, as in most Massachusetts communities, 90% of residential lots are smaller than current zoning’s minimum lot size requirements.

In other words, most of the homes that make up the neighborhoods we love today couldn’t be built under modern zoning rules.
Buy a radio and an MP3 player and dump this shit
Spotify’s founder, Daniel Ek, is another techno-fascist billionaire.

He’s invested in AI that specializes in war, surveillance and violence, so it’s no surprise he’s fine with running ICE ads on Spotify.

If you haven’t already, cancel your Spotify subscriptions. Let’s make them feel like Disney+.
Spotify boycott: Artists leave 'garbage hole' platform after CEO invests in AI weapons
Daniel Ek's investments in AI dronemaker Helsing have unnerved artists. One called Spotify a "violent armageddon portal."

122s Amazon wagon goes so hard~ The only car I'd consider in addition to my ND would be an EV-swapped one of these
I think this is a great idea tbh. If you're worried you might go stir crazy then get some friends together, pick up an actual FM radio (portable if necessary) from a secondhand store (or Aunt Ida's hall closet) and just go dick around somewhere all day with your data service turned off.
We could've spent the last 30-40 years steadily and gradually shifting sections of our economies and societies in a way that wasn't much of a bother to anyone other than a few powerful elites whose profit margins might have dipped a bit. We could've created jobs. We could've improved lives.
That's why people balk when you tell them that the badly-funded half-solution which has taken 30 years to not-implement would still take another 10 if funded and done correctly. If we'd started doing everything experts said we needed to once there was consensus, it would have changed everything.
We, as a society, have been conditioned to expect instant results. 2 day shipping, instant bank transfers, texting, cellphones, etc. We can't handle the concept of waiting to see the results of our actions, which is a problem since all of the biggest challenges we fast take time to address
Oh i guarantee that this is the owner's personal vehicle that's registered as a company-owned vehicle for tax-avoidance purposes. Every mod I see makes the truck less suitable for actual work. MAYBE they use it to visit a job site...MAYBE.
My state-issued work laptop received a forced update to #windows11 and so far, I've found one single thing the GUI does better than #windows10. In Win11 you drag windows to the top of the screen and get a dropdown of all the ways you can distribute space. Win10 is much less intuitive.

That's it.
this is one of the MANY reasons I am very happy not to need my car on a daily basis, as it is literally 48" tall and completely disappears in front of many stock SUVs and pickups in traffic now, nevermind these dumb-looking aftermarket jobs
It's hilarious that I sometimes worry that I'm too terminally online and then I just see screencaps of what official US Gov't accounts are posting on the faschapp & instantly feel better because jesus christ these are ppl who were as kids or are as adults, terminally online in the worst way possible
Okay, ngl, I should not be spending this much on rent but fuck if this terrace isn't 100% worth it with Sacramento's weather. Need excuses to invite friends over now to hang out and chill.
I did love the "Keep Clear" aisle down the central walkway tho. I'd actually been telling my aunt a similar idea not five minutes earlier. I think probably crowd circulation or lack thereof is a big determinant of how long ppl stick around.
