I've been so enlightened, moved, educated, inspired and enriched by this book. It also made me cry a lot. Not exaggerating at all.

There is a new and terrifying draft bill/project in Armenia 'on the Concept for Locating and Supporting the Aesthetic of Real Armenia'. www.e-draft.am/projects/910...

It doesn't mention the Diaspora or Artsakh at all. The 'Real Armenia', whatever it is, has erased them.

Sharing my brief blog on Adolescence after their absolute triumph at Emmy Awards yesterday - all very very well deserved, but most of all, Stephen Graham for acting. filmdispatches.substack.com/p/adolescenc...
In the chalky world of Dulux and the colour chart, you remember colour was once bright and precious. There is not a drop of vermilion or ultramarine, congealing today in these rusty cans.

Nothing more depressing and disheartening for a filmmaker than attending an event about film funding and realising this big, glorious country's main film body supports 6 feature films a year.

Both a novelist and literary translator, @antonhur.com – Fiction judge for the 2025 Queen Mary Wasafiri New Writing Prize – discusses toggling between being an author and translator, and how each role is treated in the book production process.

I just finished this - probably his best book (I've read all of them). I loved how much it reminded me of Iris Murdoch's writing (and I know he's a fan of hers). There's so much I want to say but instead of my words, read his own:

A brilliant, thought-provoking, eye-opening essay by one of my favourite writers, Alan Hollinghurst.
‘The fear that with the right promotion homosexuality might really catch on implies an unconscious conviction that the “unnatural” is natural after all, merely awaiting, in everyone, the licence to blossom.’

I'm listening to @antonhur.com's impossibly beautiful Toward Eternity on the audiobook, reached Eve Delta's story and almost heard the click in my brain going from 'can't wait to see what happens next' to 'oh god, I don't want this to end'.
So proud of this screening
We had an exciting evening at ICA, screening the inimitable Stephen Sayadian’s double bill (Dr Caligari & Café Flesh). Thanks to Daniel Bird for restoration & Elena Lazic (@elazic.bsky.social) for her moderation. We're also very grateful to @icalondon and to everyone who turned up yesterday.
Screening this unhinged, spectacular, exciting film, paired with Dr Caligari this Saturday at ICA.
