Omg how terribly tragic for 3 of those birds And for You!🫂Nature can be so cruel, in its course of life & death. It’s why I can‘t bear to watch nature documentaries-they always show some poor creature getting predated. But the dbl slam into your🚪ending in a Female’s cry, then the Hawk, oh, hon…😢💔🫂

I see the Mammoth, the sabre-toothed, nut-mad squirrel, the sabre-tooth tiger and the tall…Ground sloth(?) have skeddaddled since that movie (& all its sequels) came out. Fame🙄. Prob’ly moved to Hollywood. Then again, that was, like…literally Ages ago…😉 Lovely lake 📸!👏😊

When the weather is kind and she has time, she loves gardening. But it’s been a tough year. Our front patch & small back garden are fairly unkempt-IOW, not neat lawn or perfect anything - but that’s been best for wildlife and that’s what matters to us. Wish the weather & my health were better.😔

Oh, my, how I miss these little darlings!🥹When I was a child we’d rent an old vacation house on the St. Lawrence. With so many pine trees around, Chipmunks were frequent visitors & sometimes would come take🥜from my hand once we’d “chit-chit-chit” & gained their trust. So sweet!🥰Thx for this!🫶

P.S. In editing this photo-to try to sharpen it up as well as add my partner’s credit-I also used the #Vignette feature, which makes the edges of each corner here darker than it actually was on the day this was taken. I did this solely to try to accentuate the redness of the Maple. -tam💞 #trees

Our Japanese Maple (Acer) has fared well for many years being potted- transferred over time to larger pots when needed. Here it’s in a large, faux terra cotta pot, fr/which Ivy is spilling over. There’s a turquoise colour snail ornament in the pot. The Maple’s leaves are almost completely red-vivid against the wood fence behind it wh/separates our small garden fr/next door. Above it-now pruned to be almost like a parasol-is our Winter-flowering Honeysuckle tree. Its leaves up top look more golden than they were the day this photo was taken by my partner: that’s sunlight catching them. The rest of its foliage-to the lower right of the maple-is still green. Before long both trees shall be bare of all leaves…a sad sight for Our eyes, as We love green. Also foliage provides coverage for small birds who visit. But they will still flit in & out of bare branches, moving between this part of the garden to a bird table & bath we have on a small concrete patio, then over to the dense-evergreen-little hedgerow on the other side (all unseen in this photo). Come Winter, the Honeysuckle will produce the tiniest white flowers, which draw even tinier insects: that provides natural food for the littlest birds (Long-Tailed Tits) which flock to those seemingly bare branches to feed. We’ll supplement the birds’ food-as we always do-with a mix of suet pellets (more suet when it gets colder) sunflower hearts & sometimes dried mealworms. Any table/feeder must be cleaned regularly! We also make sure the birdbath is kept full of clean water. Just because it’s cold it doesn’t mean birds no longer need water. Like us they need it daily. So even when it freezes over, we do what’s necessary to break ice, clean & replenish it. We try to do what we can to Garden For Wildlife: birds, bees, butterflies, snails, slugs & so many other life forms. Please, if you’re able, try to help them however you can. Habitats are disappearing at an alarming rate, so they need all the help they can get🙏. -tam💞
