Walking around actively ignoring the fact that the US is on the brink of a total descent into fascism is really fucking exhausting.
Irritating interior-design jargon: light-laden; airy sanctuary; clean architectural lines; subtle sophistication; effortlessly elevated; deeply livable. Now imagine them all in the same sentence.

The question on everyone’s minds: After we bust our asses to flip Congress, will the Dems finally do what it takes to fix what’s broken, or will we be right back where we started in a few years?

One of my favorite conversations to overhear while traveling is Americans finding out how much vacation time people get in other countries. You can see the moment when they realize they've been shafted.

41 minutes of watching two shipwrecked men trying to flip a boat and signaling for surrender/help before firing on them again reminds me of the 9.5 minutes Derek Chauvin knelt on George Floyd’s neck, in that it’s an agonizingly long time to be killing helpless people who clearly posed no threat.

Memo from the Trump administration: "Our fascist ideology -- let us show you it."

I was trying to figure out how to turn off subtitles on a PBS show I was streaming, and I found this — closed captioning tech support is a snail mail address. I guess this is what happens when you don’t fund public television.

Who hasn’t spent 60 seconds watching the animated hand of an incredibly stupid person fail to solve a puzzle just to get a free power-up?

BREAKING: Pantone chooses White as Color of the Year.
IN RELATED NEWS: Trump administration announces it has awarded Pantone a billion-dollar contract to assist ICE in enforcing a new executive order requiring all US residents to meet a Color of the Year requirement.

I miss the days when the flame wars I got caught in were about fandom and not activism.

Other countries: Society must feed, clothe, house, educate, and provide health care to all children. We created taxpayer-funded programs.
USA: Someone should probably feed, clothe, house, educate, and provide health care to children. Here's a little charity. Lotsa luck.

I used to think extrajudicial execution was what the bad guys did. Wait a sec...hang on...could it be that we....? Uh-oh. 🤔

I watched Mickey 17 on a long flight and was blown away. Like One Battle After Another, M17's reflection of current events is unexpected, but M17's story and POV feel more coherent.

*tap tap tap* Is this thing working? Yes? Ok good. *ahem* Bring back copy editors.
"Runctitiononal features"? "Medical fymblal"? "1 Tol Line storee"? This gets worse the longer you look at it. But it's got to be good, because it was published in Nature Scientific Reports last week: www.nature.com/articles/s41... h/t @asa.tsbalans.se

I've tried to be circumspect while traveling, but now that I'm home, there's something I really need to get off my chest: Fuck Trump.

UofP IT is having an extremely bad day. I’m seeing this all over social media. I got it multiple times from a few different Penn accounts including the official GSE one.

Coverage of the Disney-Doctor Who divorce talks about it being too woke for the Trump era, but as usual that’s a straw man from the anti-woke crowd. If RTD were making great stories the only people griping about woke would be the usual grumpy anoraks.

Me: I’m really stressed out, I need to listen to something soothing. I know! Neil Young!
Me 10 minutes later: Goddammit. I forgot about Southern Man.

I just started watching Maigret, about an absurdly handsome, brooding British detective pretending (badly) to be French, and I honestly couldn't care less how badly they're mangling the source material, this is exactly why we should save public television.
