As so often with Newcastle recently, lots of huffing and puffing and pressing and running, but not enough to compensate for silly mistakes, woeful choice of passing and the general inability to keep possession. When the drilled patterns fail, we're not clever enough to adapt or improvise. #nufc

Newcastle players were all milling about relaxed in the tunnel before the second half kick off, totally switched off. We're rubbish in that mode. We can only play fired up. #nufc

They say Eddie can't use subs properly but he's brought our away form on early for the second half, very astute, no messing about. #nufv

Can any of the more politically informed football cognoscenti explain why, if Marseille is consistently so dangerous for away fans that they are routinely told to expect unprovoked violence, they are not banned from Europe? If it were an English club, they'd be out on their arse. #nufc

We're clearly not keeping Ramsdale after his loan. Howe is all in on Pope for PL and CL, even with a genuinely good alternative on the bench. Decent kicking to get the ball up they pitch seems like it could be useful tonight, but in Eddie we trust. #nufc

Surprised not to see Botman starting tonight. Schar did well against city but I thought Sven would get his turn in the cups. Wonder if he's carrying a knock? He's looked slower than usual recently. #nufc

The BBC's own spinelessness will destroy it.
I wish I didn’t have to share this. But the BBC has decided to censor my first Reith Lecture.

They deleted the line in which I describe Donald Trump as “the most openly corrupt president in American history.” /1

OMG. The Guardian have confused Kenneth Clark, presenter of the 1969 series 'Civilisation' with Tory ex-MP & former Chancellor Kenneth Clarke in their review of the new BBC series 'Civilisations:Rise & Fall'

As a result of there being no cricket today, I have had a lie in then a very productive, intense Sunday spent cooking food for the whole family for the next few days.

Please, England, don't ever do this to me again.

Barnes had his best game for us tonight. He's not a winger, doesn't have the pace or passing range, but as an inside forward getting in front of Woldemade he's a menace. #nufc

YESSSS! That's the Newcastle I want to see. Full backs with functioning legs made all the difference tactically and the team fighting spirit was back. Great judgement of when to press and when to hold shape, too. Eddie has done a great job there. #nufc

I thought I was watching this live but I seem to have put Travis Head's highlight reel on by mistake. #Ashes #TheCricket

I've got headphones on so as not to wake up the family, and I can hear that the TNT commentary mics are picking up some very enthusiastic sweary insults from the Aussie crowd. It's bad enough watching it without being sledged as well. #Ashes #TheCricket

You can tell he's a folkie because he's about to put his finger in his ear.
On this day 22nd November 1859 Cecil Sharp, founder of the English folk-song revival was born. (Here he’s pictured overhearing a gardener singing)

TNT and Sky must have a hotkey for the 'ENGLAND COLLAPSE' screen caption, they need it so much. CTRL-ALT-FFS perhaps. #Cricket #Ashes

Watching Travis Head is giving me flashbacks to being shouted at by my sarcastic, mustachioed PE teacher in the 80s. #Ashes

I certainly hope that England use the extra days off they'll get this weekend to convene an emergency 18-hole crisis meeting to address what went right and how they should keep doing exactly the same in the next test. #Bazball #Ashes

(Morgan Freeman narrator voice): "It was not the pitch."
Either this pitch is unplayable and the carnage will continue when Australia are batting, in about 10 minutes, or we have completely lost the ability to calmly play ourselves in when the pressure is on. #Ashes #TheCricket

Disappointing that Australia are refusing to embrace the new spirit of Test cricket here. They are deliberately not throwing away their wickets and showing no respect for Bazball tradition. There's still time for them to redeem themselves of course. #TheAshes
