I'm playing with that when Rene lived in kugane and then left after the calamity, he'd gotten semi-addicted to smoking there, vague fantasy drug whatever ff has. He didn't realise how bad it was till he had to survive withdrawal on the month boat journey to eorzea. Avoiding jumping into the sea.

I don't think the wol is automatically stronger than anybody else. They can be beaten, have to be careful, and the title is more of a "right place, right time" thing.

Rene can share the eyesight of his voidsent familiar undara, and has managed to replicate the technique with fairies and carbuncles.
This is because of his own bad eyesight, and a slight fear that someday it'll keep getting worse, or blind him similarly to Y'shtola. (Forbidden spell usage)

I think his parents gave him sharlayan food he didn't like much. So moving as a teen to thavnair made him love that food way more. His arkasodaran carer was a vegetarian so he ate all greens. But scavenging around dalmasca/doma afterwards he learnt to value meat. So meat first > then clean the plate
