It's worth saying this more than we do.

Symposium 42 is not a rival to the Oracle ACE program.

We work in different ways, do different things, but both exist to support our shared community.

Essentially, we are friends with the ACE program.
I might just about scrape together enough points of ACE associate this year...😁. But as Big Martin said, SYM42 is a little different to ACE and there is no rivalry or competition there, both groups exist to support the community.

SYM42 are currently watching a SYM42-internal webinar by @franckpachot.bsky.social on PostgreSQL & Yugabyte.

It would be interesting to know if our followers would like this (and similar) webinars to be held publicly also.

Of course, some things said privately to the group would be missing 😁
He does bang on about this...
This is the first time I have mentioned (on Bluesky, I say it every year on Twitter) that...
TODAY is the day the nights start drawing out, at least here in the UK in the Northern hemisphere, not shortest day on the 21st.

1/2 - see 2/2 or read blog

The Evenings are Drawing Out
Update: This year (2024) the nights start dawing out in the Northern hemisphere on the 13th December (last year was the 14th). Earliest sunset is on the 12th. It can vary by a day as a year actuall…

Mike Hitchwa just demoed the new version 2 of #oracle LiveSQL which is really cool Chrck it out at livesql.oracle.com
It’s about a month since the tectonic shift of Oracle community activity from Twitter to Bluesky occurred.
In just a month SYM42 account followers have gone from 25-ish to 215, Twitter followers have dropped from about 230 to 210.
To us it feels so much busier & friendlier on Bluesky too.
Thoughts?

Hope you can join us tomorrow to help decide how to build our database schema
My favourite #AskTOMOfficeHours session of the year is near

Building a schema based on your choices!

This time we're picking

Columns or object type for money?
Lookup table or enum for lists of values?
Columns or JSON for addresses?

Join us 2pm GMT Tues 10 Dec asktom.oracle.com/ords/r/tech/...
Hat Tip to all those community players - and also to the family/friends who support those close to them doing this stuff.
Sometimes we choose to do things that are maybe less in the best interest of those closest to us and more for the community.
And they let us!
So Hat Tip to them. Thank you!!!
It was really good to see Oren again (and everyone else). So many bad things going on in the world, especially at the moment, so coming together to share friendship and knowledge is more important than ever.

Cool New Features in Oracle 23ai (that I will definitely use) with @oraclebase.bsky.social
#ukougdiscover24
Our feed on Twitter is very quiet now, even with #UKOUG2024 underway. Here in the sky it's maybe 8-10 times busier. Further, most of what's on there is duplicated here.
Add in the friendlier feel, huge reduction in bots & accounts simply following hundred or thousands of random people, much better.
The Sky is Blue from now on!

You may or may not have seen it but a good part of the tech community, especially dealing with Oracle technology or tech generally, has moved on now. And actually I did just the same. So, The Sky is Blue from now on! What does it mean? I use so-called social media for…

You may or may not have seen it but a good part of the tech community, especially dealing with Oracle technology or tech generally, has moved on now. And actually I did just the same. So, The Sky is Blue from now on! What does it mean? I use so-called social media for two reasons mostly. At first, I would like to stay in touch with friends, colleagues and customers.

Important for those at #UKOUG2024 today - Chris Saxon and Alastair Newson are swapping session times
#ukoug2024

Massive train delays at Bristol today, so I won’t make my 2pm slot to talk about 23ai

Alastair Newson is kindly taking my place covering parallel query on Autonomous

I’m up at 4pm instead
And so #UKOUG2024 kicks off with the traditional "Tech Sunday".
Some of us remember when it was Oaktable Sunday!
@stefanoehrli.bsky.social opens the conference - let‘s talk about security in #Oracle Autonomous Database. #UKOUG #ORACLEACE
And good response in the thread by Niels on how helping the organisers helps get a better conferences (and maybe your paper accepted!)
Being one of the organizers I can confirm this. In general, the more you give us, the more easier it is to give the audience the best possible conference schedule.
If you feel comfortable doing a session in English, please submit as such, but be quick: deadline is 2-DEC 23:59:59 CET. ☺️
