An estimated 10 million pumpkins are grown each year just for Halloween. These autumn vegetables are delicious – so avoid food waste by making soup, stew or pie after carving Halloween lanterns. The seeds are tasty too!

With SNAP/EBT cuts looming I highly recommend downloading this app! Basically restaurants and other food businesses will have available bags of random food they don’t wanna waste for ppl to buy for hella cheap! This has saved me sooooo many times when I only have $5 and need some food.

What better way to celebrate the macabre than with a figure design glow up? A self-portrait you say? Sure thing!

Happy Halloween! 🎃

Our communitea food drive is live! We've built a hybrid mutual aid model to best serve our neighbors: 🧵

1) The tea house is now a Northwest Harvest donation drop-off point! Check out their list* to see what they recommend bringing in: www.northwestharvest.org/ways-to-give...

When you bring shelf-stable food donations to our public drop sites, you supplement the staple items and produce we distribute to our partner programs.

Food is a right, not a privilege.

We know many members of our reading community, including our bookselling partners, will be impacted ❤️ Here's how to help, and where to find help.

If you can afford to donate foods to your local pantries, please make sure to include canned proteins and vegetables. If refrigeration/freezers exist on site you can donate more options, but you’ll have to check since they vary so much.

Here’s a good source for what’s usually preferred.

So many people who posture themselves as staunch leftists/liberals/etc, publicly fight all day on social media with bigots, but keep a friend group of the Sinister Six because they fear actual conflict.

When your activism starts outward, you're only avoiding the most important fight.
This whole Nazi tattoo dude in the Senate nonsense is revealing of a lot of white folks. Oh your friends have Nazi tattoos too? Oh it doesn't bother you at all? Oh your whole crew you been rolling with has them & y'all are all perfectly democratic? Fascinating. Taking notes.

I love Rebecca DOWN. Known as Dollar Tree Dinners.

Her “Meal in a Bag” is meant to provide ppl with a complete meal that is $8 or less, is shelf stable, & can be made without access to a full kitchen. I love this as a direct aid option. Good for neighbors & elders who can’t/wont go to a pantry.

We’re conditioned to believe our smallest contributions wont make a difference. That our $5 wont help. That a couple cans of veggies wont help. That one coat & a pair of shoes aren’t worth donating. It all counts. This is a reminder to myself as well.

Even one person helped makes the difference. Don’t think bc you can’t donate $100 or have time to volunteer multiple times a week that your efforts aren’t valuable. Every link in the chain counts.

It’s important to remember that community care doesn’t have to come in the form of $100s in donations or dropping off pallets of food.

Sometimes it’s picking up an extra rotisserie chicken for a neighbor, or doing a grocery pick up for an elder, or helping someone with laundry or childcare.

Food bank director: “for every meal that a food bank provides, the SNAP program provides nine. There’s no way we can meet that gap.”
