I was unexpectedly admitted to hospital on Sunday 5th October where I remained until my discharge this afternoon.

Post Dragon's Back Race my foot was still swollen and sore.

I was diagnosed with a DVT on Friday morning.

I've documented my experience in a blog.

A canulated right arm. Bare feet. The left is a normal pale skin color. The right is slightly swollen and very red and sore. Bare feet. Both slightly swollen but the right is also red, sore and much more swollen. Me, in my hospital bed, in the corridor.

My blog page engagement has skyrocketed. It appears a medical saga is more popular reading than my usual race reports. 🤣
Blog page stats for the last week showing views have risen 60,100% and visitors have risen 43,550%
I asked the doctors the same question. They can't say for sure. One theory is that the inflammation caused by the cellulitis infection led to the DVT. Another theory was that reduced circulation due to the DVT caused cellulitis.
The future neck down CT scan is to check for possible causes.
Thank you Ali.

I completely agree. I saw so many very poorly vulnerable & elderly patients who weren't able to advocate for themselves.

Personally, I have some way to go in my recovery, but things have turned a corner and are now heading in the right direction.
Thank you. I'm feeling pretty weak and fragile, but I'm glad to be home.
My HRV doesn't lie. I feel pretty weak and shakey, and my sleep pattern is all over the shop.
A screnshot of my Coros watch app showing a very low HRV score.

My heart would want the tea, but my head would make me choose the flapjack. I learned long ago there are three ways to warm up in these events. Move faster. Put on more warm layers. Put more fuel on the fire. Calories, calories, calories!

Kit conundrum. 🤔

In the UK it’s the time of year when we may need to pack a waterproof running jacket when heading out on a long run. 💦

We want our kit to have a long life but waterproof jackets are often not built to last.

What are your tips for getting the most from your jacket?

1/2 - We need to talk about what we eat.

One of our four pillars is #HowWeFuel

We recognise that what we eat has a big part to play in our impact on the environment & climate.

This article highlights the need to keep that conversation alive.

Tell them how you travel to the outdoors.

What’s working? What’s getting in the way? Faced endless delays? Or found a brilliant low-carbon alternative that more people should know about?
