I've had this inherent feeling that people have become more intolerant even within queer and progressive discussion, the constant persecution and witch-hunting at any new idea, and I could never put it into words aside from thinking it might be a bizarre kind of elitism, but this explains a lot.

Many SA + SWA people experience this, those with light AND dark skin, especially around the eyes in the form of dark circles. (An illustration shows eyes with and without hyperpigmentation.) Because many people already have deep set eyes that are shadowed, the result often makes the surrounding eye area quite dark. A lot of comments about if I sleep enough or that my stare can be a little scary or just a bit intense.
