Tired, grumpy, old, queer, nerd. Into conlanging, spec evo, TTRPGs, and staring blankly at the wall for hours. I don't talk much.

If I had explain American history in one sentence, I could do worse than "John Brown was hung for treason, but Robert E. Lee was not."
John Brown’s raid on Harpers Ferry began on this day in 1859.

Look, I don't really want to wade into American politics, but since emblem gestures are my jam, a reminder: gestures are treated in communication as more deniable than words and bad-faith actors can easily exploit this feature.

With all the shit going on my husband is looking for jobs in the EU. Anyone need a DevOps Engineer and willing to help an American couple escape? 😰

The puppy is at the vet getting a broken tooth pulled, and now the older dog is just eating up being the only dog in the house. He missed being the only one to get love and attention.

My husband and I have been working on a space facts coloring book for kids. We really love doing it, we're really enjoying what we've created so far. But some days, like today, we're staring at each other saying "How do you explain Hawking radiation to 5th graders?" In as few words as possible. 😰

It’s such a delight to not understand youth culture as I get older. I’m so happy for these kids and their glizzy skibidi toilet giga chads.

Feeling threatened by young people because they’re creating confusing new trends is a SKILL ISSUE. Embrace being supportively baffled!

I'm very tired, and it's the middle of the night, so I'm sure that didn't make sense. So, yeah...

My biggest fight right now is working out the morphology for changing words from one part of speech to another. Don't want to just make random affixes, I want them to be words attached on. E.g. noun>adj (manner) is -with. So "with-speed" means fast.

I have been neck deep for days in trying to put together the grammar for my #conlang and I still feel like I've barely made a dent.

Thoughts?

OSV is standard word order. Agents of intransitive verbs may be animate or inanimate, but agents of transitive verbs must be animate. Inanimate agents must be introduced via a postposition after the verb, changing the word order to OVS

I'm getting married on Tuesday. And I'd love to use that as an excuse for not doing #lexember for days, but really it's just depression kicking my ass on top of a mountain of stress.

#lexember day 6

I decided to change up how I make my kinship terms today.

/wɛ.ʁɔ/ (n) - son
Derived from /wɛ/ (v) - to cry, to weep

/ɔ.tu.ʁɔ/ (n) - daughter
Derived from /ɔ.tu/ (v) - to drink, to suckle

/ʁɔ/ (v) to do (a thing) - I've made this also into a kinship suffix

#lexember day 5

/kwɔs/ (v) - to think, to think about
/kwɔʃ/ (v) - to remember
/kwɔ.nɔ/ (v) - to dream

#lexember day 4 I did a couple words to work on a sentence

/kwu/ (n) - here, this place - when used w/ infinitive verb it changes the verb to the present "tense"
/ɔ.wa/ (v) - to sing, to recite

/ɔ.wa kwu ak ji cim/
sing here of I you

I sing of you = Thank you!

since it was, I've gone ahead and downloaded it so everyone can enjoy it without needing to perform this dread calculus:

How incredible is it that these totally ordinary moments from the lives of ancient Babylonian students have survived.
