🧵 It’s really Autumn now & leaves are turning. I love this time of year. The colours really sparkle for me, from red to yellow to indigo.

It’s nature & the spectrum that inspire me most, as you can see in this thread of my vibrant one-off ink drawings - just scroll down & have a blackberry! [1]

Extreme weather events are affecting billions globally.

Beyond cutting emissions to slow the pace of global warming, adaptation is essential to protect people and communities from the consequences already underway.

Here is why adaptation matters: www.un.org/en/climatech...

“Scientists have warned previously that Amoc collapse must be avoided “at all costs”. It would shift the tropical rainfall belt on which many millions of people rely to grow their food, plunge western Europe into extreme cold winters and summer droughts, and add 50cm to already rising sea levels”

I was shocked when I first saw these results from standard climate models used in IPCC reports: for high emissions, the Atlantic overturning circulation #AMOC shuts down in all 9 models that ran past 2100, and is well on the way to shutdown by 2100.
Our paper on that is out today.🧵

For the EU, this should be a very urgent matter of national security. All EU member states should build on Denmark's wise strategy to phase out Microsoft products

I've just seen some staggering data on how badly infections are affecting urgent care here *now*.

It's hard to comprehend.
It's hard to get your head round it.

You need to see it to believe it.

Smart move by Zelenskyy - playing on Trump's well-known squeamishness

Ukrainians should be worried about the latest Trump-Russia shenanigans. Most likely for multiple reasons, all bad, a battlefield- and economically-weakened Putin is being allowed to negotiate as if from a position of strength. This US diplomatic aberration needs to be countered by European leaders.

Gabbard, Patel and Hegseth - “the unholy trinity of utterly unqualified nominees, people put up for their jobs primarily because Trump and his advisers knew that they would be completely pliant and obsequious…and that Senate Republicans would have to bend their collective knee by confirming them.”
Kash Patel and Tulsi Gabbard are turning America’s spy apparatus on its own employees, @radiofreetom.bsky.social argues.

To be clear, this is the fossil fuel industry rewriting climate science in the name of profit.
The list of names on the review of climate science presented to the US energy secretary reads like a who's who of paid lobbyists for the fossil fuel industry. Because it is.
I can't imagine there will be any problems with this summary of climate science

Why do heatwaves matter?

Heatwaves are prolonged periods of excessively hot weather, often accompanied by high humidity, that significantly impact human health, ecosystems and infrastructure.
In Europe, they have become more frequent, hotter and long-lasting since 2000.
